- Beginner to Intermediate level polymer clay cane tutorial showing from beginning to end how to build the cane that is shown.
** Please like, subscribe, and comment! THANK YOU FOR WATCHING **
- Includes instructions for making a Skinner blend that was originally developed by Judith Skinner and now used by most polymer clay artists to create color gradients in polymer clay designs
- Finished product is a cane that can be sliced (with every slice being almost identical to the rest) and used in an unlimited number of clay projects
Materials needed - 1 block each of Premo Alizarin Crimson and Premo White, 3/4 block of Premo Black, and 1+1/4 blocks of Soufle Canary, and 1 tsp White embossing powder (optional)
Tools needed - Acrylic rod, knitting needle, metal or wood rod, blade, pasta machine
- Instructions are given for exact colors and amounts, but please, please, please, let your creativity be your guide! Use your own colors, modify the design, go wild!!!
- The design for this cane was adapted from the ink and colored pencil drawing I did that is shown at the beginning of the video.
- The pictures of the cane, the drawing, and the video are copyright 2018 by Anita M. Long. However, any canes you make using my instructions and any products you make from those canes are your own work and you are free to use them in any way you choose. Any credit to me for the design and instruction either by name or by tagging me in your social media posts will be appreciated.
I'd love to see your finished canes made from this tutorial and the items you make from them! Send pics to anita@neeneeree.com or tag me in your posts!

I always appreciate when people who make tutorials tell us the “whys” and explain every step. I’ve seen some people on other KZbin channels talk about how redundant and lengthy some videos are but people start somewhere and those people typically need step by step in great detail. I also appreciate when they leave in their mistakes so we know how to fix them.

To get it wavier you can add yellow snakes to the indents and if you want it to be all yellow on the outside you can save more of the yellow to add a thin outer layer after you roll it.

@NeeNeeRee
@NeeNeeRee 5 жыл бұрын
Lee Tau Thank you! Yes. You definitely can start and stop as needed. That the awesome thing about polymer clay! And really, it’s not a bad idea to let it rest so that the clay on the outside that has been warmed and softened by your hands can cool off and be more the same consistency as the inside. (But I’m usually too impatient for that! 😉)

How do you get crumbly clay to working order again? And what do you do if your cane starts to crack when reducing?
@Beezer.D.B.

I was wondering, but not sure it would work… on different types of flowers, for instance like these in our emojis:🌸🌺, could you use the embossing powder (in contrasting color) in strategic places… like lightly dusted in the very center layer of the center circle, or perhaps the very outer layer of it, to represent those little stamens that those kind of flowers have? Or would the embossing powder be too unstable? I know, that was too long of a question 😂. But I’ve worked with both materials in many different ways, but never together, so I really don’t know. Thanks

This was a wonderful tutorial. The only thing I would ask for is to get closer to microphone. It was hard to hear your voice. I was on so confused about what you added that made yellow side less sticky. Was the white clay a different brand vs the others?
@NeeNeeRee
@NeeNeeRee 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm finding regulating the sound one of the hardest parts of making a video. But, I'm learning! The yellow clay that I used was Souffle Canary. The Souffle clay isn't as sticky as the Premo, so it works nicely in the step where I am making the blend very long and thin. :)
