As much as I love this show, the women on the show were humiliated quite often, and objectified. It was never about developing an emotional connection, it was always about getting Bret more time in the spotlight. It was like 80% real from the girls’ perspective. 0% real from Bret’s perspective. He only did it for publicity to his solo career, but was never looking for love. Lacey talked about it on her podcast and how he confessed everything to her, saying he was with his baby mama. He was with her the entire time and that’s why they were officially “on again” after the ending of season three when no more seasons would be made. The sad part is the majority of the girls didn’t know this (I think only Lacey knew.) and he legit had them there catching feelings and making them think they had a chance. It’s why some girls like Jess and Heather legit hate him. Then I think there’s the girls who went in knowing it was bs but wanted the opportunity for a shot at fame and to put their name out there. Heather and Lacey also talked about how the producers would pull strings here and there to get desired reactions. Even the winners were probably chosen on how well they’d take not actually dating him, how believable it’d be that they didn’t work out (hence why Jess won over Heather), and how well they’d rebound.
