Its about values, partnerships, trades and developments. And side by side resolving disputes via diplomatic channels.🇮🇳

India is living in reality & rightly moving towards useful development. Chinese economy is artificially inflated. China has developed 100 ghost cities with over 64 million empty apartments, huge malls, bridges & infrastructure which average Chinese can never afford to buy or use. Huge useless but showcase infrastructure & cheap exportable goods are produced by oppressive slave conditions of millions of laborers who are transferred en mass from villages to work in the cities with condition to live in labor camps, not to venture into developed clean areas of cities & are not entitled to permanently settle there (Hokou System). China’s iconic High Speed Rails (HSRs or bullet trains) are running at eye watering loss of $814bn. Prof. Zhao Jian of Beijing University said while people were tending to focus solely on HSR’s unrivaled size & speed, it should not be forgotten that its debt & deficit are also number one in the world. According to the Institute of International Finance'(IIF) China is internally bankrupt with over $ 51Tn of domestic debt (317% of GDP Vs 90% in India) making China internally bankrupt. Despite that, while GDP of China in dollar terms is 5.3 times bigger, in PPP terms (which is real indicator) Chinese GDP is only 1.98 times that of India (World Bank, 2022). Chinese economy is fragile & totally dependent on exports and is facing serious economic slow down, banking & real estate crisis. As countries are decupling & de-risking from China, its youth unemployment has shot up to 21%. If the US & India find alternate markets to substitute Chinese imports, Chinese economy will simply tail spin.

Consuming biased news gets you unrealistic opinion, 😂”ghost cities”, I shouldn’t wake you up from your slumber 😅. By the way I’m an expat that travelled much across Chinese cities. Unfortunately there aren’t many .Indian scholars that understand Chinese and Chinese politics, while Chinese has that resources and capabilities in understanding their neighbours advantages and weaknesses. You guys should consult with a former Singaporean diplomat like Prof Mahbubani, on what Indian should do in this geopolitics theatre.

@@MyOhwhatever People in China are unaware of how prevalent poverty is in their country due to propaganda & censorship. All videos about poverty are banned & uploaders punished. A singer by singing “I wash my face every day, but my pocket is cleaner than my face,” indirectly conveyed widespread frustration among young, educated Chinese about their dire finances & gloomy job prospects. He was penalized. Frustrated young Chinese even holding blank sheet as protest are jailed. Scott Kennedy, Senior Advisor at of the Center for Strategic & International Studies, USA says that China has lost between 60 million and 100 million jobs with unemployment reaching 21%. China has now stopped releasing unemployment figures. There is general agreement that 700 million Chinese earn only 2 dollars a day. Li Keqiang, Chinese Premier fell into disgrace for revealing that 600 million Chinese are earning monthly income of $140 or less. With China’s cost of living more than twice that of India as revealed by PPPGDP, that is only marginally better. Chinese are basically better off because of one-child policy where assets of both parents are transferred to the child while having one child means less expenses & more savings for the family. However, even this compulsory one-child policy is now leading to grave consequences. Economists had warned of the debt concealed in the books of local governments & state-run companies. Goldman Sachs says that China’s hidden local government debt now exceeds half of the GDP. High levels of debt are the main reason why China’s largest property developer, Evergrande, which borrowed to build, is sinking with over $305 billion in debt.

Sometimes being a large nation has it's drawback, i.e., pride and ego will get into the way of diplomacy. Look at South China Sea nations that have disputes with China over the sea borders, the disputes did not stop them from getting along well in trades and other areas. Even Vietnam leaders are now sleeping with the Chinese leaders! And who wins? It's the people of both nations win with more trades and jobs created. Infrastructures are getting better by the day and so on. India's leaders should not be tied down with heavy anchors over the border dispute with China. It's not as if the land has valuable minerals or oil. For all we know, it could be a barren land for thousands of year until new technology could use the soil there. It would be wise for both sides to put this border dispute aside or even better to settle it once and for all so that both nations could move and progress together as good neighbours. Lift the standard of living first like what China is doing. It's more important than quarrelling over an inch of barren land.

The weaker player will play a more flexible game. Plus India relationship with China is also hinged on US China detente. Also there is no honor in international relations. China broke with Ussr comrades to cowy with greedy capitalists. Now they have gone back to Russia and fighting the American whilst pushing for global trade and capitalism. Dialogue with China has been going on all the time. But they have a set view in terms of the boundary and even regions like Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin which cannot be negotiated easily. So there is a stalemate

Last 4-5 years are failed foreign policy years of India. Recently Maldives association we lost even after huge aid and investments after pro-Chinese president elected, Russia our historical ally, We are sidelining after our west bloc or QUAD alliances. We have failed in all prospects of foreign policy as we know China has acquired 2000 sq km land of ours, regular skirmishes along indo-china borders, recent Qatar ex- Indian navy personnels death sentences, Constant attacks on foreign embassies of India. Regarding our neighbouring countries, Nepal and China are in band together even they conducted regular military exercises and signed economic deals. In India-Afghanistan relations we have kept void after Taliban takeover in 2021 and China is taking leverage of this. And even reopened embassy over there. Finally we are unsuccessful in curtailing China- Pak relations(CPEC under BRI). What else you need from our crashed policies. Current MEA alwavs seemed to be rather boastful and above himself. He knows how to keep Indians in delusional state by passing nationalist statements at the world forums. So public cannot question or be critical on his foreign policies failures. ITS HARSH FACTUAL CRITICISM BUT TRUTHFUL.😊

Nice try, Wumao-ji. India's foreign policy has never been better. India is getting the best from both the US/West and from Russia. China can only do so much in the neighborhood. Sri Lanka has already learned its lesson by siding with China. India's relationship with Bangladesh has never been better. Bangladesh is the only other South Asian country with a stable economy. Maldives is simply too small and irrelevant.

Just because some anti-India politician is elected, doesn't mean the change is forever. BTW, the previous pro-China president of Maldives is in prison now! Just like Sri Lanka they too will learn their China lesson soon.

All these dialogues are just time pass for the Chinese. China will never give a cent of respect to India unless they have something significant to lose by annoying India. Period. China respects hard power. Unless India becomes more powerful than China (which is highly unlikely to happen in near future), India's best bet would be to win some Chinese mercy!

I don't appreciate guests whose outlook is like India has no option but to talk to China. I understand generally the challenges with China, and I don't understand the nitty gritties whoch an ex- foreign secretary might be expected to know better than me. But overall, if i were to form an assessment if i should trust this person, the assessment is not to follow such person or such appeoaches. It is a very bad way of conducting our exrernal relations, no matter how powerful China may be. If they commit aggression, of they violate statis quo in breach of agreed positions, India nust stand its fround and fight. This was how India was being hamstrung in its relations with Pakistan also that India has no option but to talk to Pakistan.

India and China agreed to keep this aside and continue to build relations in other areas, while discussions on this continues. India and China agreed to draw temporary Markers of boundary and further agreed that pending final resolution of the border talks, both will respect this working boundary. One fine morning China comes up and moves the markers 4 km inside and declares the talks are for the remInder, these 4 km are now mine. If the talks now don't concern restoration of the working boundary, it does mean that India has conceded.

India must not be obsessed with eagerness to improve relations with China. China had been deceitful in violating border agreements & India’s blockage of Chinese aggression during difficult Covid Lockdown has raised international standing of India bringing strategic & economic benefits. India can take the advantage of Chinese intransigence. Covid pandemic, US defeat in Afghanistan, Ukraine War & Israel Hamas War will bring about significant changes in the world. Countries are increasingly opting for mutually beneficial preferential trade agreements to save their economies, industries & jobs. Autocratic behavior of the US in blocking sovereign Russian dollar funds, SWIFT denial & complete blockage of Russian media will lead to multipolar world with multipolar trade, swap currency trades, multi currency trade, multiple geostrategic economic alignments & UNSC reforms. India imports 5 million barrels of crude oil a day which means whopping $182.5 Bn at price of $100/barrel. Crude oil makes 32% of all Indian imports. Crude oil, sunflower oil, fertilizers, coking coal, raw diamonds & Russian high end weapons: all important Indian imports can now be made available through Rupee-Rouble route which India must exploit against increased Indian exports of goods needed by Russia & Central Asia. India has rightly switched to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat through PLI to produce vital goods under PM Modi's vision of making India a self-reliant nation & asking democratic world to make in India. Ukraine War has converted modern warfare into no-contact or low-contact war with need for high tech weapons & need to keep huge inventories & domestic production. Independent expert Panel Reports of UN, EU & Oxford have predicted next pandemic in 5 to 10yrs. What if the next epidemic is very fatal? Technologies to rapidly jab people with rapidly developed vaccines will decide the winner & India must prepare itself for this. All vital industries must come within national borders in line with future threats of pandemic. India must prioritize these vital tasks converting Chinese belligerence as a blessing in disguise.
