Session 4 Part 1
In an age of information overload and widespread pseudo-intellectualism, understanding the core foundations of Islam is as essential as ever.
This course comprehensively deconstructs the skeletal structure of prevalent ideologies and concepts such as atheism, scientism, materialism, secularism, and skepticism, in light of an all-encompassing intellectually robust Islamic worldview.

Reminder this is session four of five in total. The first session had a number of videos dealing with epistemology and way to belief. The second session looked at particular core arguments for belief in one creator. The third session dealt with some of the key contentions against the arguments presented for the existence of God. The fourth session currently airing deals with the Need for Messengers. In essence responding to deistic claims. The fifth session deals with the concept of miracles and the Quran as a linguistic miracle from the creator.

Is it right to say that previous arguments were rational, and this argument is empirical? Because we need some empirical data about human behaviour to compose argument from fitra.

This argument isn’t to prove the existence of God but rather to move from a deistic conception to a theistic one. The key point that underlines deism is that deists believe that revelation shouldn’t be expected from the creator. Here is an argument that says that a creator who intentionally created humans and all contingent beings did so with humans having an attribute that seeks out to form a relationship with the divine. How we came to this conclusion that humans have this innate attribute to worship/revere/sanctify was through empirical observation of the human condition throughout different times and locations.

11:34 - 12:06 Isn't that a good reason to think that finding ourselves believing in certain things in time of need doesn't really point to those things actually being real or efficacious? That it's more of a psychological crutch than anything else?

The fourth session is a discussion around the need for messengers. Ie would we expect revelation from god or is god simply deistic. Therefore the other sessions addresses whether it’s rational and reasonable to believe in God. If then it’s established that God created all contingent beings. Then the various attributes that exist within creation are ultimately caused by god. That means if we have an innate desire to worship then this is not an incidental attribute but rather something ultimately caused by God. If then that’s the case it would be rational to assume the reason for this attribute in humans was so that humans seek out a relationship with god. If that’s the case then God would tell us how to form that relationship and thus we’d expect a message or communication from god. That’s the main gist of the argument from the above vid

Just semantics here, but the title could also be “Argument FOR Fitrah” or “Argument ‘in defense of’ Fitrah”, coz most of those who don’t believe in God would dismiss it as merely something that is irrational.

The original title was “The Need for Messengers: Argument from Fitrah” when the course first ran as this was session four in which the course in this session seeks to discuss why we should expect revelation or a message from our creator.

The video explains the term fitra which he describes as innate disposition and then he goes into more detail to explain that there is an innate disposition to want to worship and revere something that they perceive transcends the material.
