Been waiting for this from Mac. I knew he would fuck the shit out of this mellinial piece of crap. Almost everything associated with mellinials......their cringeworthy speak,horrific characterisation, fake strutting confidence.....just seems to be jampacked into this pile of shit. Just how difficult is it to create a big open world and let the player do all the driving?.....apparently VERY. Wolf2 and this were the 2 games that I had my eyes on.......but BOTH are just brimming over with cut scenes that just boggles the mind. The jokes often lead and feed into the story and world building itself. NFS has never ever been about that, it has always been about fantasy street racing culture that does in-fact take itself seriously. But in the past games like Most Wanted 2005 it worked because the story was self sustaining and engagingly written. This game is made by people who are out of touch from the youth and think throwing a flurry of cringe buzzwords will make them relatable. Clearly didn't work because it's obvious and annoying.

The saddest thing is that Need for Speed started as the open road racing game with aiming to have THE most authentic physics experience for real life cars in a video game complete with care damage, when other games all used old-school arcade style racing. For the time, they did an astounding job. It has since devolved into just another racing series like any other. Truly sad.

mdavies97131 Yes!!! This. I have always been puzzled by this disastrous shift. I have played most NFS games and the last one I genuinely enjoyed was Most Wanted 2005. I moderately enjoyed The Run and despised the rest (Carbon, Prostreet, Shift 2 Unleashed, Most Wanted 2012, NFS 2015,). The expectation was Payback would be the Run 2, but this game is absolutely derivative, boring, and ultimately a chore to play.

Well, good news is this may just be the fuckup EA's been waiting for to shut Ghost down. Seriously, those guys have no idea what they're doing. Sure, NFS hasn't been the same since Black Box turned it into Fast & Furious The Game, but at least it was still good, in it's own way. whereas Ghost have no idea what the hell they're doing. They can't make good NFS games, they can't even make good racing games, and they've been given more chances than Criterion (whom actually came close to reviving the series) ever got. Test Drive Unlimited 2 is shite though. It has the same problem as Payback really, it focuses too much on gimmicks (like gambling) and not enough on cars and racing. Test Drive Unlimited 1 was awesome though, probably the closest thing to a real NFS game post-2000.

With arcade racers, the Dreamcast lineup and Flatout 2 (pc) are still my favorites. I remember how impressive Need for Speed for 3DO was back then and if 3DOs weren't so expensive, I would have gotten one for Xmas. Ended up with a Saturn the next Xmas with Daytona USA, which still blows away many of the new NFS games despite being a rough port. So many good classic racing games for all sorts of preferences. CHAMPIONSHIP PRO am for the Genesis is still a favorite.

I agree on most things you said here, but why do you even want to play an arcade game like this with a steering wheel? When you turn left, the car starts drifting by itself with the wheels turned right. Playing with a steering wheel would be counter intuitive if you ask me. It still bothers me that almost all new arcade games have this kind of "turn to drift" physics... Why can't they just make the driving physics similar to NFS Underground 2, where you actually needed to drift for yourself if you wanted to? Well, I guess I already know the answer.. It's because drifting looks cool and they think kids these days don't have the skill to do it, so the game does it for you. Newsflash, kids aren't that incompetent. I could do it when I was a kid, and I'm sure there were many others too.

I know, a lot of the Community liked Carbon as it was basically "Underground Perfected" (a Term I hear a lot in the Racing Game Community to Describe that Game and MW 2006), now I *hated* it for that Reason actually, but, that's mainly because I am from that very small part of the Racing Game Community that Remembers the Need For Speed Games of the 1990's, Road and Track Presents: The Need For Speed, NFS II SE, NFS III Hot Pursuit, High Stakes, and Porsche Unleashed, and played them on the Recommended 3DFX Voodoo/2/3 PC hardware, yeah, I am that old!. I loved Need For Speed back when it was all Exotic Cars, Semi Simulation/ Sim Cade Handling, Long Circuits on Gorgeous Country Roads, *Epic* Trance Music from Romolo Di Prisko and the Late, Much Missed, Saki Kaskas, Had Cockpit Cam and Wheel Support, and was Purely about Racing, no Gimmicky Customizing or Storyline BS getting in the Way back then, when your Starter Car was a Fast, Glamorous and Luxurious Jaguar XK8, and not some Riced out old Honda Shopping Cart... (hell, the one "Riced out Honda" in the old Series is in the Intro to High Stakes, where it blows its Engine to Pieces quite Comically when attempting to take on a Porsche 911 (993) Turbo at the Traffic Lights) when it was Pure. when it *was* Need For Speed, and not "NFFS". So to Me, as Underground was just such an.... *insult* to what NFS was back in the 1990s, where the Series became "NFFS", it is there where the Series Died, for Me at least. Long Before Carbon. I just gave Him hell for His attitude Problem!

TDU2 was rough around the edges, but it was a terrific driving game! Even the likes of Forza Horizon 3 and The Crew couldn't hold a candle to it. I loved the sheer size of the map, variety of cars available, and the casino mini-games! The attention to detail was one of my favourite aspects also. Each car had an interior view, working lights, windows etc. You even had a mileage counter! A seriously underrated gem in my opinion. Edit: Just watching the original TDU2 environment trailer gives me goosebumps. You have to do a review, Mack!

I agree with you Mack, but not all Millennials are idiots. I, for example know how shit most modern games are, because I grew up with old games. I started gaming when I was about 2 or 3, and my first games were stuff like the original super mario, and eventually I got a ps2 and in 2004 I got a pc. My first Pc games were Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, Turok Evolution, Marine Heavy Gunner, an fps where you literally die after 3 shots, and no health regen or x-ray vision. Later I started playing the first age of empires and the old colin mcrae rally games and toca race driver games. And yeah, I played need for speed porche 2000 on my pc as well. I also played Medal of honor allied assault and it's expansions. The point is, my computer was absolute shit until 2012, and I couldn't play any game newer than 2007, unless it was on console. My point is, some millennials like me know good games, and have good taste. I'm not like the normal millennials. I actually cringed when he went: "OMG LOL" when you drifted. Oh, and I played Battlefield 1942 and battlefield 2 on Pc a lot, and the old operation flashpoint, the old medal of honor games, the first 3 call of duty games, etc, and the original Deus Ex. Sorry for all the examples, I like to over-explain my point.
