+VideosBySteve I think he should've put more pressure on that Shift is more of a track racing game rather than a street racing game. Previous NFS titles were all about street racing and escaping from cops etc. Also i think there is less amount of customization available to cars in Shift. Still a great game tho.

I liked Need for Speed Shift, I dont mind Gran Turismo and stuff. Although my gaming pc died a long time ago so Ive never gotten a chance to try those games you listed. I like both style of racing games, but I lean more towards the action side, like hot pursuit, most wanted etc. Still liked prostreet (not that its a sim) and Shift which is more of a sim kind of racer.

i'm also the fan of nfs series but nfs shift has some serious issue about it physics and handling which i don't like.so, if you want realistic driving experience, i'm recommend you to try both of games above and also build your new gaming rig :) ps:with steering wheel

For me it's one of the best and challenging NFS ever done! I'm playing it now with a wheel. The game is simply amazing but also quite difficult as well. This is not an arcade game like Hot Pursuit or even the Run. This game is a real RACING. And it won't forgive any mistakes from your side. Though sometimes I just hate this game because one mistake can ruin the whole race... But it is defenitely worth playing it. GREAT NFS!=)

I have this game and have purchased several other NFS games. Shift is by far the best of the franchise. The others are just over done and unnecessarily complicated, they have stupid concepts and poor racing dynamics. This one just feels right. I liked it so much I bought two copies, one for each PS3 in my house. Notice that the new resale price hasn't dropped below 25 bucks.

My problem with Shift and the reason I never bought Shift was that it was not a NFS game. It did not have any car customization, no online, and was trying to compete with Forza and GT when NFS is in a completely different realm of racing games. This is not NFS, it might be a great game, but its not a NFS game.

I personally am a much bigger fan of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. While it doesn't have the amazing cockpit view like this game does, it is still amazingly good. It also stays true to the old ways of Need for Speed, being a street racer, and that is something that went missing from Shift. The cars in Hot Pursuit are perfect as well, and include some very iconic cars and brands. Need for Speed Shift is a great game, and by no means a let down, but I think Hot Pursuit took it that step further.

I wish there was a way to turn off all the carnival stuff at the side. Yes, it gave you an impression that you were in a really competitive race weekend and stuff, but turning it off would've made it run smoother with less animations to run. There's a mod (at least for the pc) that gets rid of that but it is a bit confusing to get that right.

At first the game was blah but after getting into it, it was pretty awesome the controls you get use to, graphics are sweet, I played it on my x6 machine on high with a 360 controller via dongle. A well rounded game to say the least it's worth buying in my opinion.

Just depends on what you're looking for in a racing game and personal experiences with the game... I grew up with underground so thatll take my #1 spot, same with most wanted... Carbon I loved because it was so similar to Most Wanted and while I absolutely love this game, it's not worse than most and I can definitely see how it's better than the ones I enjoy more, even though i dont necessarily agree. That's the inherent flaw with any review for anything... you cant have objective opinion

This game is freaking awesome. Trust me Im a sim fan, gran turismo, forza, but this game is like an adrenaline rush. Play with the settings and the handling and gameplay is pretty good. Need for speed shift 2 will be amazing. sure the game doesnt have many cars, but it has cars that matter. GTR spec v on nurburgring is just epic!!!!!!!

One thing i can easily say about shift 1 is: the AI. Theres people who will say its too aggressive and... theyre right. It is a bit aggressive but at the same time its extremely good. Many a time have i been lost in the dust. While fighting to get out of the starting pack a few guys got like 10-15 seconds of lead on me. After i caught up to them (really tedious cos theyre so good) i still couldnt overtake them. Maybe its down to my skill but on hard it feels like at some corners i catch up while losing on others. The result is 0. It really creates tension in a race which i like.

I grew up with underground 1... But this game looks amazing as well. If they mixed the two, underground's style and customization, and this game's realism+graphics with some of the style (forrests, daytime, ect) then that would be the vest racing game I will ever play...

After playing GT5 for so long and trying to come back to playing this game, it was just a big change in gameplay. Shift, when you drive you are more easily to spin out at any speeds over 75+. GT5's gameplay was just about right and felt more comfortable driving. I was seriously getting mad every single time I spun out and had to restart each time.

I have nothing to criticise the game for. It does give me framerate hitches when I max the settings, even though I have a fairly powerful system. This game just rocks, lots of tracks, cars, unlockables, makes it easier to wait for GT5 :D

Oh, and they could put a fuel issue in there so you have to go to gas stations and get out, go in and pay, and then stand there and pump the gas, and real traffic laws so you actually feeling like your breaking the law when racing, and if you get pulled over it could be a mini game to try to talk your way out of a ticket that you would have to pay for, or you could have the option to run. Now I may have gone into too much detail for my dream game. But I think it would be so cool and realistic.

i disagree on that last part, as a PC gamer, it'll benefit everybody if they move consoles on, cause so many games still come out using DX9 with limited graphic quality simply becuase they need to make them compatable for the console versions, and there arnt many PC only games, there mostly independant ones...

this is a good game, don't get me wrong, but what I just LOVED about the nfs games (like 'undercover' and 'most wanted') was a very strong story line, and racing free in cities and highways in the neighboorhood, or miles away, having cops behind you, driving your car over incredible mountains..... it's all gone now.....

I just got this, and i have to say its very nice.. but i do agree NFS is street racing game, that's how the series started that seems to be what nearly all the fans want, so i dont understand why they haven't done it yet .. i don't care if Fast and Furious has turned into a heist series they can do what they want with it, but the Fast and Furious 1-3 will always be the best ones (and the 4th to a lesser extent) .. just like the early NFS games are the best ones in the series!

the only prob i had with this game was the body customization, i liked it when you could choose any part you want, but in this they give you 3 small body-kits, my fave was still Underground 2 cause of all the parts I could choose from, but I have to admit, the Vinyl customization in this game makes up for the lack of body parts

I LOVE This game but what frustrates me in this game is the handling of the car. Whenever im in the lead for some reason the car snapps loose and sends me in the wall causing a wreck or in the sand. plus I always come in last in a Drift Competition the car wont keep the speed heading into the corner. Cuz of that I rate this game a 8.5. But When I get Shift 2, I hope that the handling is more easier

@LukeLamping what? no, the original need for speed was about the open road, the first nfs was open road, nfs2 was open road nfs3 was open road with police cars.... etc you get the rift. technically they were circuits but they had traffic, police and no barriers, so they were an open road in a circuit.

Just bought this game yesterday and I must say that this is one of the best games I ever spent money on, the driving physics (while not ultra realistic) is enough to get your blood pumping. Who wants realism in a video game anyways? The car list is on top and the cockpit view is amazing! I had a choice between Shift or Gran Turismo 5, and let me tell you guys I'm glad I saved my money, had enough cash left over to buy myself a 12 pack of beer... Sorry GT5.

You got that right. What we need is a NFS game with proper street racing filled with traffic, polices, techno-music and a carrer-mode. Just like the NFS we see today. That's why i feel in love with the arcade-racing even if that honor goes to Outrun. I'm glad that the upcoming NFS: Rivals is just another cops vs racers game. Rather a chase full with crazy policecars and helicopters chasing you then a miserable simulator were the damages are a joke and the steering is awful, like NFS: Shift.

This was honestly a great NFS game, because of it's sumulation. My favorite NFSs were the 3 Hot Pursuits, because ramming the cops/racers at top speed was amazingly fun. Then again, I liked Underground because of the customization and the street racing aspect.

@ordude123 Unfortunately Microsoft stopped production of their xbox 360 steering wheels however you can still purchase them online and third party companies like mad catz have xbox steering wheels for sale. But it's a shifter and not a paddle shifter.

I think they should mix GTA and NFS, meaning you can get out of the car and have it be an open world game like underground 2. And they could set it up online to appeal to the ones who (like me) love the idea of tuning up YOUR one and only baby and racing down the freeway against a fellow tuner having no idea what you're competeing with (modification wise) until you start racing. And the only way you get another car is to buy it with your earnings or a pink slip race.

Shift isnt SUPPOSED to be street racing! Shift is track racing. Its pretty good too. Shift 2 is going to be way more awesome than Shift 1 tho. BTW its not called Need for Speed SHIFT 2. Its just Shift 2 because its not street racing. Just a little Fyi for those who dont know.

3Xcollasso Damage can be visual or full. Full damage can affect steering, top speed, or acceleration. Although I’ve only noticed a difference in steering which makes the game very unfun to play, due to oversteer. You can’t total cars and they don’t cost money to repair like Prostreet. Crashes aren’t that exciting, imo. If you plan on playing with a keyboard don’t buy.

Thanks. I cant play any race game via keyboard. Going to get it for ps3. I never could understand how gran turismo is considered a sim racer, but never had damage, except for what little was added in the later GT editions. When i play and race, i want damage, so you cant just bounce off other cars and the walls. i still like Grid for that, and option to watch the replays of the car crashes.
