Love you guys! But I am AMAZED that you HAVEN'T reviewed XANADU yet (by Rush, NOT Olivia Newton John), especially as much as you love Rush. Been a Rush fan since early 80's, and I agree with many who say that Xanadu is their greatest MASTERPIECE. PLEASE make sure it is NOT the studio version, which is very good, but nothing compares to their 1981 (Exit Stage Left) performance. You WILL be blown away. I am sure it's already been requested 100 times already.

It's so beautiful how Rush was able to stay an independent band with very little label backing their whole career and have so much success. It was all talent and constant touring that got them noticed until "Moving Pictures" They had a lot of negative critics back then, but their popularity on the FM Rock radio stations kept 'em going and getting bigger anyway, Bet their induction into the Hall of Fame was even sweeter because of that.

No dummies in a RUSH crowd. That was one of the coolest things about their concerts. RUSH was special, that’s the simplest way to put it. Rush is fun because they went through so many phases. Here they're in their pure prog phase. That was 2112, A Farewell to Kings, and Hemispheres. After Hemispheres they admitted they simply couldn't keep up that sort of complicated prog rock energy and raise families at the same time, so they dialed it back. Personally, my favorite Rush album is the 1985 album Power Windows. If y'all haven't reacted to "Marathon" yet, you should. That's possibly my favorite Rush song ever.

I believe a big part of what made Rush special, especially early on in the 70's, was Aleks' classical guitar playing. He came up with some beautiful classical lines that gave that band their other-worldly sound. Songs like Lessons, Farewell To Kings, 2112, The Trees ... he was so creative.

Thus is my second favorite Rush album. The birds at the beginning are not sound effects. They moved Geddy's synths and Neil's percussion bells outside on either side of a courtyard. Alex' guitar pans back and forth because he literally walked back and forth between them.

Rush was a touring band that had little radio play due to the long, intricate songs they sang. Tom Sawyer was unusually short for them. They fought with their label demanding they write 3-4 minute songs made for the radio. They were ordered to write radio playable songs after the Caress of Steel album (my personal favorite) with its 19 and 12 minute songs. So they wrote 2112, a rock opera that comprised one side of the LP and over 22 minutes.

That concert changed my life. As a drummer, I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. I mean Albert Bouchard of BOC is no slouch behind the kit, but the magic I felt from Neil was transcendent. The next year when Hemispheres came out, we slept out for tickets & I was able to see them for their first headlining tour from the 4th row right in front of Geddy. Still to this day, the loudest concert I have ever been to & to this day they are still my favorite band.

Over the years I have had conversations about musicianship when it comes to various groups. I am not saying this just because they are my Canadian boys. I have been waiting for a few YEARS for you guys to get here! Love the reaction as usual! So this was the very first song from Rush that I heard on headphones back in 1978 when I was 12 years old and it completely and totally blew my young mind!! Once again, Neil Peart writes lyrics in a song that can be construed as prophetic. The Royal Crown and Illuminati still owns us just like we know they did in medieval times. "The more things change, the more they stay the same", as Neil said in yet another song! In this song Neil asks, "Can't we find the minds to lead us closer to the heart??" Unpack it guys, we know the rulers are currently (today) and have always been (including in medieval times) evil and enslaving to "We the people" of the entire world! Our rulers need to be of the heart not the wars and suffering they have inflicted upon us to feed their greed. That is what Neil Peart is capable of professing elegantly in the grandeur of a remarkable piece of music and you can listen to this album over and over again and never ever be bored! Do Xanadu next, it will blow your minds, I promise!

I fell in love with them, and this is still one of my favorite albums. It's the 2nd one of a five-album streak of brilliance. And this song has always been on of my favorites. The way the bass bounces around is so fun! Also,. the lyrics feel so... current. I swear it could have been written today as opposed to over forty years ago. I love the drama in this song. I love how it ends on "Can't we find the minds to lead us closer to the heart?", and then you flipped the vinyl over and the first song on the 2nd side was "Closer to the Heart", which then recommended what is needed to address the problems in "A Farewell to Kings".

Thank you for coming back to Rush guys. Come back again soon I hope. Still so much more to enjoy. Where to start? Jacobs Ladder, Different Strings, Natural Science (in fact anything from Permanent Waves you've not done yet), The Camera Eye, La Villa Strangiato (that'll bow your minds), Losing It (amazing), Xanadu (look for Exit Stage Left 1981 live version but a good quality one - you won't believe what you're seeing) and of course 2112 (it just has to be done). And then so much more. I love the way you guys get stuff so would really love to see more. Thank you thank you...

The pop up at the end for Rush's "Losing It" you really should do that song. The story in it is phenomenal. It's also the first time Rush brought in an outside musician to play violin on the track. Amber I guarantee it will become one of your favorite songs, knowing a little about your taste now.

Come on all you dedicated RUSH fans, let's get them listening to more of the band's deeper tracks. There's so much out there they haven't heard yet.

Probably one of their more underrated tunes... YYnot, a Rush cover band, does a great live cover of this song.

that note at 3:42 is something only geddy can do. i've never heard a male singer capable of doing that with his voice.

A Farewell To Kings was the first Rush album I bought (in early 1978) and is still my favourite of theirs. Apart from the title track which you've featured here, and Xanadu, it introduced the inspirational, magical Closer To The Heart to the world.
