That looks like fun! I am new at felting. Can you tell me what you mean by “a cluster of 42 triangles”. Thanks for the great video!

By cluster, Marie means that she’s taken several felting needles and bound them together… example- three individual felting needles bound by a rubber band wrapped around the non-pointy end. Or… they also make handles to make needle clusters if you want to get fancier and have something larger to hold on to while felting. And doesn’t have to be three needles, it could be more though the bead is pretty small so you probably wouldn’t want too many. You could also use a single needle. It will just take longer, require more pokes, and might make controlling the shaping a bit harder. The 42 refers to the needle gauge… 42 being towards the finer side. And triangle refers to the shape of the needle’s shaft. A normal sewing needle is round, but felting needles need edges for the barbs to be cut into. Felting needles come in a few different shaft shapes… triangle, star, spiral, etc The shape determines (along with gauge) how “aggressive” the needle is at tangling and compacting the wool fibers together. A heavier gauge spiral or star needle will work up the fibers quickly, but the trade off is a lot of visible holes peppering the surface of your work. Many felters save that type of needle for building the core of their project. Then they switch to a finer needle to get a nice smooth finish to their project. I’m not super experienced, but I’ve been felting on and off for several years now, so don’t take me as the end all and be all when talking felting! lol Have fun and happy felting! Oh… and watch your fingers! 🙂
