How do you bring back an overgrown needle juniper bonsai to old glory? And how do you maintain and manage Needle Juniper bonsai foliage?
How do you fix a bonsai with bad roots to the pot?
All these questions and more!

Definitely front 2. This was so useful to me Jelle as I am just about to tackle a couple of ignored junipers. One of the best videos I have seen on this subject material.

That is a most difficult choice! This was an absolutely great video Jelle! Packed with useful information! I liked the second front with more of the deadwood showing, until you repotted the tree straighter. That changed the whole look of it and then I loved the front you chose. More of the foliage can be seen.

Great vid, and very usefull info about pad pruning, thanks! For me, definitely front no 1. With a more visible live vein, the entire tree is more credible. The other version makes the deadwood too dominant, imho, and the pads look like just an accessory. Thanks again!

Another Good video. Brief and on point. I vote for front #2. I’m looking for a needle Juniper. I just found a great lava rock to stick it in/on…a combo in rock and over rock look. My sources for stock or suitable Needle Juniper are drying up. May need to travel hours to locate one.

Great stuff, as always. 👍 For me, I think front no. 1 but rotated round clockwise about another 10 degrees so the deadwood is rotated further to the back, rather than to the side. That way it shows through and contrasts with the foliage without dominating it.

It looks very nice. I'm very new to Bonsai, so I was wondering if your juniper in this video will only have needle foliage or if you can give it scales. Thanks
@GrowingBonsai
@GrowingBonsai Жыл бұрын
this specific species has only these needles. Chinese junipers often have needles when young and as they mature they get scales

So when is the best time to prune junipers?
@GrowingBonsai
@GrowingBonsai Жыл бұрын
I like maintenance work over winter. Then let it grow wild over spring, with a cutback once runners have formed to induce backbudding.

Great vid Jelle, but I think you may need other optics for this type of video? Front nr 2 is my prefered. I like the fire works, need to remember that for new year. Cheaper than the bamboo I am using. Would you do this thinning and pruning any time of the year or is spring preferred??🙂👍

Junipers don’t produce flowers. They’re conifers, in the gymnosperms; only flowering plants (angiosperms) flower. What you were picking off were pollen cones
@GrowingBonsai
@GrowingBonsai Жыл бұрын
Absolutely technically correct. Flowering bodies would have been the correct reference. But in general, most people would call these flowers, i feel. 🤷
