Every time I prune a plant I stick the branch in the same pot and forget about it. I do it in early summer and they grow. It helps me because the trees are from seeds and have variations of leaves shaped, fall colors etc. It is so much fun. I started during the pandemic replanting seeds from one big Japanese maple. I have more than 100 trees and bonsais and I give some to friends.

I just started a jade bonsai. I heard these plans are almost impossible to kill. So hopefully that proves true and I’ll have it for the next 50 years

I have a bonsai that has a lot of big roots at the bottom and one of them rotted out should I cut it all off and repot it? There was mold in the bottom of the planter and the root is so soft it just breaks off
@GrowingBonsai2 күн бұрын
The question is too generic to answer definately. Bit at repot time I would certainly remove rotting roots!

Would it be okay to do this to an indoor lemon tree that has never fruited? Trunk is about 3 inches diameter
@GrowingBonsai2 күн бұрын
I would make sure you have the lemon nice and healthy first, and in summer when it is peak strength prune (Or at the end of winter, when moving it outdoors)

I'm shopping for wire cutters and see some that say they are for aluminum wire. I can't find any saying they are for copper wire. Will it be a problem using the one for aluminum on copper wire???
@GrowingBonsai2 күн бұрын
That is odd. Copper is much harder than alu.

That's amazing and so scary 😮😮 I'm scared to cut off all the branches and leaves on my ficus even though I understand that this needs to be done.. may it would die?

Key is a healthy tree, and knowing you are not cutting below the lowest dormant buds. But a tree healthy as this and this size, no worries at all.

I also don't have a mister. Wonder if a cheap ultrasonic fogger on a timer could do the trick (those for Halloween). Create a tube with transparant plastic around the plant and run the fogger inside the tube 1 / 2 a day (for 15 minutes or so). Just a crazy idea. Mad mans humidifier.
@GrowingBonsai2 күн бұрын
probably would. Not sure what an ultrasonic fogger for halloween is, but anything that creates an ultra high air humidiity.

It’s always hard for me to understand how you’re able to get this perfect tapper trunck. Did you cut it young? Then let it grow again and cut again… year after year ? Because we don’t see any mark of cut in the trunk?
@GrowingBonsai2 күн бұрын
It is a combination of cutting, cleaning the wound to be smooth and letting grow again, resulting in the bark growing over the wound.
