It is unusual and it doesn't fit the mold of what people commonly see as dendrobiums, so it is a great way to diversify your collection and have something different. I hope you are able to get one soon! Thanks for watching and HAPPY GROWING! :)

No need for calcium supplement in a shell. I have two of those shells on my aquarium. Cool idea. A few holes with the drill..........I wanna see that painting. Todd is pretty cool. He has a nice collection as well.

Yes indeed the shell really is multifunctional and a great way to step away from the norm. I am hoping to see some orchids in your collection join the shell party! LOL! ...and my project was a bit more artsy crafty I guess you can say...not really a painting...but none the less I am hoping to be able to work on it soon. :) Todd is a cool person and he is not too far from me...it is just a matter of time before we bump into each other at an orchid event.

Todd's Tropicals I think you would love it....it looks like a succulent but blooms like an orchid...the best of both worlds if you ask me! LOL! Did you see the bonus feature on the Oncidium orchid that you gave me at the end of the video? It is growing so well and I am hoping that perhaps it may give me a spike this year...or at least I am keeping my fingers crossed. HAPPY GROWING!

Denise's Orchid Paradise YAAAAAAAY! I am so happy to hear that you are going to give it a go!!! I think the cucullata would be a perfect orchid to display in a shell...as a matter of fact I may also give it a go as well!!! :)

@@denisesorchidparadise1411 Yes the cuculata already has such a unique and beautiful bloom...so to put it in a shell would only enhance its beauty that much more...and because it an orchid that stays fairly small (other than the long dangling leaves) so it should fit and grow well in a shell...and I will do a video on it. It is a very easy process you just have to make sure that there is a way that the water can drain from the shell to allow the orchid to be capable of drying out and not retaining too much water. So you would either have to make/drill holes or have the shell hang in such a way that the water would drain out from the top opening of the shell. The way that you would situate the orchid would be to either hold it in with some form of media, use wire or string, or even glue it into the shell. Whichever is easiest and most convenient for you. I am so happy that you are going to try it out and when you do, pretty please make a video of it! I would love to see it! We are orchid shell sisters bonded through orchids growing in shells!!! YAAAAAAAAAAY! LOL!

I keep both of my shelled orchids outside and they get the exact treatment of my other orchids. I originally planted the orchids in the shells with a little moss, but now the roots have taken over and the content of each shell is mainly roots...so they are easy to dry out.
