If I remember right the creators actually gave an answer to what happened after Luthor and Darkseid disappeared with the antilife equation. They became part of that wall of stone faces circling the universe which is supposedly the fate of everyone who solves the equation. There were plans to bring them back in a later season but the series wasn't renewed after that.

On Twitter, the writer rather pragmatically argued that, from a storytelling standpoint, it would be a bad idea to withhold the "real" Darkseid from readers because it would constantly lower the stakes if Darkseid felt so disinterested in conquering Earth he never bothered to roll out of bed.

Highfather is a necessary evil not a good guy. His purpose is to oppose Darkside for all time. Highfather seeks the Life Equation while Darkside seeks The Anti-life equation. Highfather says the power he stole from Kyle Reiner after he went through the Source Wall was the Life Equation. The Anti-life Equation is obtained by Lex Luther at the end of Justice League Unlimited. I believe these two elements to be creation elements different from the elements of Life and Death.

Great video. There's only one thing I'd say is questionable here. As far as "Accidentally" resurrecting Darkseid in the finale of JLU. That wasn't an accident. Luthor forces Tala to be the catalyst of the resurrection, both of them knowing it'll kill her. The writer's confirmed that she never told Luthor that DARKSEID'S remains were there too, so she resurrects HIM as a final "screw you" to Luthor.

It has been debated that in Gods and Monsters, the reason DS and Highfather's behaviors changed so much was because of how much Orion had influenced DS and Highfather's behaviors. In that universe, DS was extremely proud of having Orion on his side, and as a result, didn't really want anything more. On the other hand, Highfather not having Orion made him far too arrogant and "above all" attitude, so he became power-hungry.

My favorite fight between Darkseid and anyone was with him and Superman in the JLA series when Superman did his whole Shpeel about how he’s always holding back in a world made of cardboard. Darkseid doesn’t die from that fight, I think it’s right before Lex takes him to the source wall, but I always found it super dope

In the Unlimited Universe, some people speculated both Darkseid and Lex are stuck in the Source Wall. The place where Lex got the Anti-Life Equation. Since in the comics a long time ago in a Crossover between Marvel and DC, Doctor Doom gets himself stuck in the Source Wall, eternally. The same could be said for both Lex and Darkseid.

The one where High Father kills Darkseid feels more like a disservice. It's not really shown here, but in the full sequence you can see that Darkseid is actually happy for his son, and that possibly could have brought legitimate peace between the two empires, and High Father goes and ruins it. Yes, I do know that this is assassinating an evil dictator, but good can't be spawned from an act of evil like that. They could have made peace and had lasting good from that marriage.

I've always hated how much of a punk they ultimately make Darkseid into. I get that in the end the good guys have to find a way to win but it seems like Darkseid gets his ass handed to him too often and too easy.

I didn't get that Darkseid invaded New Genesis after his resurrection in the DCAU. I did wonder why New Genesis didn't intervene on the Earth invasion, but I don't remember New Genesis being conquered.
