I love how the lyrics explain how the banks of a river compare to His protection and keeping us close to Him. The banks give the river boundaries yet also allows direction of flow and they narrow when necessary. Just my observation

That analysis works for the specific line, but I don't think it's the gist of the entire song. "You are beautiful and wild at every turn Who am I to take control of that" If the whole song was about the relationship between God and us, that line would make no sense. God should and certainly is the one to take control of us. I think it's about being there for your spouse while at the same time giving them space.
