In a game of League of Legends, there are 3 lanes on the map named Summoner's Rift. Each team has 5 players: - Top lane will have one player. This is usually where you'll have your team's tank or fighter. - Mid lane will have one player. Here you have your magic damage dealers, aka mages, or assassins. - Bot lane features two players, usually the team's main physical damage dealer and the support player. - The 5th player plays in the foresty area between the lanes called the Jungle. The Jungler roams from lane to lane, securing objectives and advantages for their team. Here are what the main leagues are. - LCK = Korean League - LPL = Chinese League - LCS = North American League (USA/Canada)* - LEC = European League *Starting 2025, the LCS is being rebranded to the LTA and will include all of both North and South Americas. In a typical year, there are 4 main tournaments. - Spring Split (regional) - Mid-Season Invitational (international) also known as MSI - Summer Split (regional) - World Championship, also known as Worlds The Golden Road is achieved when a team wins both Spring and Summer in their region, as well as both international tournaments. So far, no one has accomplished this, though some teams have come close.

42:39 He is very proud. It must not have been easy raising his children by himself and then your teenaged son tells you he is quitting school to pursue pro-gaming. And this was 10 years ago. Back when esports athlete wasn’t even a thing. We are very thankful to Faker’s dad and the entire family. They raised a phenomenal athlete and amazing human being.

There were already professional esports players in Korea for games like starcraft, even before league came out, and far longer before the first pro careers in the west were starting. though it was way less common. Doesn’t make it any easier. Now that esports is so much more popular, it’s actually way harder to get in to than ever before. The thing about Faker that’s amazing is the way he’s managed to level up with his younger competition (with the exception of 2018-19 of course), even as the skill level of pro league gets higher every year.

This year, half a mont ago was held Worlds 2024...and our "Unkillable Demon King was unkillable one more time" (quote from the last game from final series). It was epic, truly epic, T1 and Faker were 1 game from NOT qualifying to Worlds, and still get there. They faced hardest opponents of all teams, defeated team to whom they losed every time, faced Strongest team in finals...lost 1 match, won second, lost third, won fourth and it was match point 2-2. And in last 5 game Faker did truly miraculous plays 2 times and reversed the game winning it for his team. Faker won again, for 5th time. And even got final MVP. Proved he is still the GOAT

For people who dont know, esport was already a thing in East Asia since the 2000. Many of us don't get to watch those live back then, but we knew it existed. Tournaments grew as the internet spread globally. Live events and streaming made it easier for fans to experience the thrill.

starcraft was always the typical korean e-sport. but Starcraft E-Sports dies slowly. so they needed a new title. LoL was the new thing but after 2014 the "korean exodus" nearly killed the e-sport in korea completly. When SKT T1 didnt had won this year nearly everything, we would maybe not have this region anymore or not even close to LEC and LPL.
@leilegion
@leilegion 3 күн бұрын
@Dermi_Sky I remember a lot of Korean play StarCraft. I played it once and got so into it, but as more games came out, from LAN to online, Starcraft got left behind. Kespa shut down the team years ago. SKT's losing streak, however, didn't deter growth. Statistically, gaming is still good, SKT1 was just not in its best form for years.

What's more impressive is the fact the south korea didn't have a dedicated LoL server back in the day so during the early days of league they would suffer from high ping which made them kinda "late" to the international scene but lo and behold they are now one of the major regions in the world

Theres something like 169 unique champions in league of legends, somewhat split between 5 roles you can play AKA Support, Marksman, Mid, Jungle and Top, so the fact he's played 83 is actual insanity. Something else to note LCK refers to the South Korean league, and LPL the Chinese league, and Faker/T1 have never lost to a chinese team at the world championships in these last 11 years.

30:11 faker literally wasn’t close to be healed again but he said he watched a lot of games and played ranked games as much as he could to atleast keep his muscle memory going while being injured. But he came back still injured because he was afraid his team needed him badly to get qualified for the worlds. And he had to sit differently learn to hold his mouse and keyboard differently t in order to be able to play with the least amount of pain. But he still needed hand Massage Treatments after every game series he played. So he was not okay but he kept pushing

I want to expand a bit on the creativity angle. When you play a pick nobody else play, they have 0 experience against it. A large part of League is knowledge based. It's the first thing I learned when I watched somebody commentate their play. They knew when they had enough damage for a kill for example and when to back off. Decision making basically. He won his fifth and his best plays were yes, skillful. But more importantly he's seen as a God for his decisions. It's something many COULD do but likely wouldn't. He saved his team several times in the finals with these decisions winning his 5th worlds. So on this champion nobody else plays you gain experience vs the usual champions. The ones everyone else plays. You know how to play against them. But they don't know how to play against you. They don't know your damage, survivability, etc. Of course this is balanced by something being meta/normal for a good reason. So execution is everything because usually this creative pick will have much less room for error. As Faker himself said here, initially he could get away with these non-meta pics because of the gulf in pure skill. But like in most e-sports that skill gap shrank. Faker no longer could just do "whatever". Today calling him the best player in the world comes with some caveats. He's clutch as hell. Stupidly so. He's a teamleader. Likely the best there is. But in terms of pure early game he's expected to lose to several people these days. Simply doing this for 11 years now and still being here at all is incredible. Winning world 11 years later is just incredible.

5:26 You probably wont understand this clip fully unless you start playing the game, but I'll try to explain in a nutshell what happened here. I'm not doubting your ability to understand this, I just remember myself seeing League clips for the first time xD In this era of League of Legends, mirror matchups (one player from each team playing the same character) were possible, and this is a Zed mirror matchup, meaning both Faker and Ryu are playing Zed. (Most) champions in League have 4 abilities: Q, W, E, and R, R being the ultimate ability with a higher cooldown (it takes longer for you to be able to use it again). Zed's Q throws a shuriken in a straight line. His W throws a "Living Shadow" in a straight line, which stays there for a few seconds. The shadows replicate Zed's damaging abilities, so his Q and E. If you throw a Q (a shuriken), the shadow throws one as well. Zed can press W again to switch places with the shadow. His E slashes around him, dealing damage. If you have a shadow somewhere, the shadow slashes around itself as well. His R (ultimate) teleports him to the target, leaving a shadow where he used his ultimate from. When he arrives at the target, he has a few seconds to damage the target. When the "few seconds" are over, the ultimate explodes, damaging the target based on the damage Zed dealt to them in those "few seconds". Zed can press R again to switch places with the shadow left behind where he used his ultimate from. So Zed can have 2 shadows and himself to deal damage with his Q and E abilities, meaning that he can throw 3 shurikens at once, and he can cover a larger area with his slash. He can also teleport twice during a fight, once to his W shadow, and once to his R shadow. Faker's play in this clip is a very advanced and clever use of Zed's shadows, especially for its time. Nowadays, probably a Gold or Platinum rank Zed main player could replicate this play's mechanics. But back then literally no one had mechanical skills like Faker. The fact that he started the fight on 25% HP vs Ryu's 100% HP is the cherry on top. If this wasn't clear enough, but you want to learn more, I recommend looking at Zed's abilities one by one on the official League of Legends website. 10:50 And uhhh, he pressed Q...xD That's Master Yi's Q ability, Alpha Strike. He clicks on a target, disappears until he slashes 4 times, and appears at the target. It sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is xD Master Yi is actually one of the easier champions in the game. 11:53 Back then it probably wasn't normal for video games, other then Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGO) and League of Legends, and maybe Evo, a large scale eSports event for fighting games (Mortal Kombat, Tekken, etc). Nowadays eSports events can fill very big stadiums.

This accolade, Hall of Legends was made before Worlds 2024 (happens yearly between October-November), in the middle of the year, so the Worlds wins are at 4. They just won the 5th (only team to have 5 Worlds, back to back from Worlds 23 with the same roster, remember as well that they made finals in Worlds 22, so only team 2 get 3 consecutive finals apprarances..and the only team to get back to back TWICE before any other team in the whole world of LOL to get 2 championships) last Nov 2, and Faker got his 2nd Finals MVP (only person as well). A lot of people said he should not have been the first to be inducted since he is still actively playing- but nobody comes close to his stats and wins.

on 2nd of November he became World Champion 5th time - second time in a row, third time in a row in a final. Also League is probably the game with the highest skill celling and it hasnt even been reached yet by anyone, not even Faker reached the full potential of the game. Everyday something new comes that people find out they can do.

you will hear it often, but man, league of legends could not have asked for a better person to represent it. He rose to the top and changed the sport entirely.

You should also watch the other videos that got released next to the documentary like "The Numbers" and "The Plays". Also T1 and Faker ran it back this year and won again with the same 5 team members meaning Faker is now a 5 time world champion and he got MVP this tournament so he is the only player with two MVP titles at worlds.

24:20 His old team didn't come back. Instead a new generation of monsters came to play with him. Before, we had Faker and his teammates. You could focus on taking him down and the rest would follow. Now, we have 5 good players in one team. Each game, one of them would step up and bring a performance that's worthy of hayday Faker. Until eventually, we ended up with 5 Fakers in 1 team. I shit you not, Keria their Support, a role that is low impact in a the game was considered the best player in the world. That's like a goal keeper in football getting best player. That's how much of a monster Keria became. He had to deal with poor teammates, teammates that couldn't click together and bad coaching staff for years, so I couldn't dream of a better reward for his resilience all these years.

I think a new video that just came out called "League of Legends For People Who Will Never Play It" will be a very good watch if you're interested in knowing more about how the game works! As a league player, I watched that video and I'd recommend it 10/10.

Faker is absolute Legend, even if you don't play League even if you are not into ESports, FAKER is one name you should be familiar with or else you are living under a rock. He's the undisputed GOAT in entirety of ESports.

Yes they competed in worlds this year and they won as well. They won 3-2 with the same roster as 2023, but unfortunately this is the last time we would see this roster because it has been confirmed just recently that Zeus is not signing with SK Telecom again, and the replacement of Zeus will be Doran. We'll see how they perform next year and in the future, I'm sure many people are also excited and anticipating what T1 will bring again next year so let's keep our eyes peeled

FUN FACT: On the skin they gave Zed, they put a reference to that play he did with the champion. The voice lines goes like "Look at the skills, look at the moves, ZED what was that?"

Something the video doesn't mention(probably because it kinda puts his teammates in a not-positive light) during his break due to his wrist injury: the other 4 starting players were somehow themselves playing worse individually while he was gone. It's inexplicable. Imagine if people in sports just run slower or can't toss a ball further just cause a player is different. Also as some people mentioned: Faker won a 5th world championship title this year, with his team being the first to do back to back wins with the exact same lineup. Faker himself became the first player ever to win more than one finals mvp award now.
