Permanent visa is issued to: Foreigners and stateless people and people of Lao origin who live in abroad are approved to permanently live in the Lao PDR shall have money in their bank account minimum about 1.000$
Long-term visa is issued to:
Foreigners and stateless people who have their goodness
contribute to national protection and development tasks
including those who provide benefits to the Lao PDR with
the long stay purpose in the Lao PDR;
Foreigners, general stateless people with long stay purpose
in the Lao PDR shall have money in their bank account of a
bank in the Lao PDR at least twenty thousand US dollars for
six-month stay in the Lao PDR and forty thousand US dollars
for one-year stay in the Lao PDR.
As many foreigners and People of Lao origin living abroad have expressed an interest in living in Laos permanently, the Lao Government is to introduce a new decree outlining permanent residency requirements for foreigners.
People of Lao origin living abroad, as well as foreign nationals, can apply for permanent residency in Laos once the new decree is approved by the government.
The new draft decree will cover two groups of people - people of Lao origin living abroad and foreign nationals, including stateless people. The aim of the decree is to encourage people of Lao origin living abroad to return to their homeland and contribute to national development in their birthplace. The new decree also aims to respond to the requests of people of Lao origin living abroad who want to return home and spend the rest of their lives in Laos. The draft decree also stipulates seven conditions for foreign nationals or stateless people seeking permanent residency in Laos.

Hi Neenee, thank you for making this great video. We came to Canada 45yrs ago as refugee, fleeing the Vietnam war. I’ll be retiring soon with different pensions that requires us to come back to Canada every 6 months. But the Laos government requires permanent residence to stay minimum 10 months? That will be an issue for us unfortunately. Also, I was born in Vientiane - will the government allow me to purchase land? Or, am I still considered a foreigner? Can you please help answer those questions for me? Hoping to visit my homeland for the first time this October or next year since fleeing. Thanks.

No offense, but the 62-year-old-Lao man who wishes to teach the English language in Laos should not be allowed because he is not proficient in the language. His his English writing is full of grammatical errors. He has a good intention but he would teach incorrect grammars and the American English accent pronunciations to people in Laos.
