My horse is a cribber. I bought him as a 6 year old stallion who had limited turnout and large rations of concentrate feed. He always wore a collar. I had him gelded, completely changed his feed, ditched the collar and he got turnout asap with my other horse. He rarely cribs now but does do it after I give him a treat. Now I understand why!

Interesting listening and I'll be searching this study. However I did note that the behaviour by the horse cribbing was connected to the horse in the stable next to it. The movement of the head was telling the horse in the other box to go away, there may have been a connection there also in this circumstances. I would have been interesting to see if the horse would have cribbed if the box next to it had been empty. Did the study find crib biting behaviour with food the same for horses that were turned out?
