The Immortal was a cancer on my childhood, there is literally no difficult game to this very day that I've played that can even hold a candle to this Abomination of a cancer. To those who complained about the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne being hard AF, try playing the Immortal with no strategy guide or online assistance, because back when this game released there were none at all, then you'll know what a truly hard AF game really looks like. This game is where rage quitting and breaking controllers began. When everyone was comparing difficulty of other games to the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne I was comparing the difficulty of all games to the Immortal. Btw I didn't know this game was on the NES too, everyone I knew, including myself, only owned the Genesis version because of the blood.
@NefariousWes7 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, the gore was the selling point for the Genesis version, but other than the missing spider stage, I'd say the NES version is even tougher. The rage in my voice at points throughout both parts of this video is genuine. God, it pissed me off. I remember as a kid hearing my dad in the other room yelling and slamming his fist down playing The Immortal. It definitely tests your patience.

Really good breakdown of the games. As for the bats they may have been added to the game to prevent people from beating the game if they are renting it. I have seen a lot of resources showing that Nintendo did not like rental stores and encouraged developers to make games harder so they couldn't be beaten in a normal rental period hoping it would get people to just buy the game to have more time to beat it. (makes sense from a business stand point since Nintendo got no money from rentals aside from the initial game purchase though it leaves us with a lot of hard games)
@NefariousWes8 жыл бұрын
+Wolfsite That's an interesting theory. I wouldn't put anything past Nintendo, considering their questionable sales tactics over the years. Thanks for watching!
@Trialwolf8 жыл бұрын
+Westapo: Video Games and Loud Music I just remembered that renting video games is actually illegal in Japan (I had some Japanese boxed games that even had no rental icons on the back of the box) and there is a video online that shows that Nintendo and some other Japanese companies did try to make it illegal to rent games in North America as well. Again it is an interesting video if you wanted to look into it further.
@RobD-jq7ry8 жыл бұрын
+Wolfsite I could understand why a company would not want a party to purchase their product and then rent said product out for a profit. This takes sales and more importantly gobs of money away. However in 1990 spending 50 bucks on a game that may be good or may be borderline unplayable was not a fair position to put consumers in. As long as nintendo gets their cut from the rental stores it seems to be a win for all...well except for game developers and publishers that put out shit games. Those guys get exposed...perhaps game quality would've been lower without this rental practice.

Not sure if i'm remembering this right, but on the nes version, if you help fight the trolls with the goblins the goblin king just talks to you without any trouble. which is funny because a first i tried impersonating a goblin at first, getting the i know who you are messege and a spike enema for my trouble. I also did the spore kill everything bit but that didn't seem like the right thing to do so i started over. The 'geezer' looks more interesting. The other boxart just looks typical. The wizard is the actual protagonist of the game so... Also, the NES was a generation behind the Genesis so I'd expect the Genesis version to be better. And Nintendo changed its stance on blood and gore with Mortal Kombat.

Another amusing difference is if you try to talk to the Goblin King while wearing the Protean ring.....A ladder magically opens up underneath and.....you fall in, much to your demise (It's a ladder! It's a trap door! No less dangerous in this game, as you saw) as he declares "You are an impostor!"....In the NES version, he pulls a Vlad instead and immediately summons one of the rather sodomizy spikes, and here he says "I know who you are.....And I have a surprise for you!"....Which makes me wonder if the king doesn't think you're an impostor, but mistakes you for a real goblin he doesn't particularly like!

So far the differences are unconscionable. It almost seems like the NES version is the hard mode version of the game. albeit the 16 bit and PC versions of the game look and seem to play much better, it's hard to compete with sheer difficultly. Oooooo The Immortal! I played the NES one as a kid long ago and loved it. The story in that version is just crap and I had no idea about the backstory. Well, until I played the DOS version and opened my eyes to everything. Solid video man. Really enjoy your editing and flow here. It shows you care about the game as I know you've obviously done your homework on it. I reviewed this game on my channel as well. It seems to be gaining more and more exposure which is great! I went over the DOS one almost exclusively. That's more my domain for gaming. The first half of your video eerily parallels mine. Great minds must think alike! The music on the DOS one is also similar but different. I can tell you'd probably like to hear how the songs change. I prefer the NES music over the Genesis, but I gotta hand it to the DOS for the best yet. I will check out some of your other stuff later! Take care!

And like I mentioned in the video, the graphic violence just enthralled me, as video games rarely had guts n' brains, let alone blood! I put a ton of work into this video and loved every laboring second of it. You should check out part two if you haven't already, as I feel it gets more interesting as it goes along. The Mega Drive version seems to be the best all-around as it's often the case. It has the close-up combat, the most suited soundtrack and is uncensored unlike the NES version. I would like this license to get picked up by a company and have the idea given to several indie development companies simultaneously to let them all riff.
