Although Negan is still a villain, my mans had principles and a vision. He was built for this world and had a view in which things actually could work, and did his best to hold people in line. By comparison to the maniacs that followed him and were out there, he was incredibly reasonable and killed as a means to an end, trying to avoid it. He creates examples, hoping to not have to do it again, as he would be hurting himself doing so. And he punished his men frequently for stepping out of line, but was fair with his judgment. Anything that he did, he respected when others did it back. He seem like he was genuinely fond of Carl and saw him as the future, and was devastated that he couldn't wrangle Rick and his group. He was impressed by them and wanted their subjugation. One of the greatest villains I've ever seen.
