Negative SPACE was the focus and it WORKED! Yay!! Abstract Acrylic Art Painting

Today I wanted to purely focus on the negative space within a creation - its the negative that can really make a pattern pop. Let's explore this together...

Today's Tutorial Information:
▶ Technique: Swipe
▶ Pouring Medium formula: My paints are mixed with Owatrol Floetrol and water only - on a ratio of 1:1:3 - one part paint, one part water and three parts pouring medium. You may have to adjust your ratios depending on the paint brands you use.
▶ Color Palette:
Amsterdam: Brilliant Blue, Phthalo Blue, Prussian Blue, Titanium White (used to mix my bespoke color with the Prussian blue 3:1.5), Turquoise Blue (Base coat)
Arteza: Silver
Pebeo: Iridescent Copper
Cell activator - White with Australian Floetrol - 1:4 ratio.
▶ Hair dryer: When I use a hair dryer I use the Remington D3010 and always use the cool setting and the lowest blow speed.

Good evening Mark. It's a bit past midnight, Friday 6th September here in Kempsey, NSW, Australia. I seem to be able to concentrate a lot better at this hour rather than mid-day. There have been so many different techniques you have shown us that I would love to try, Unfortunately, due to my health issues I am unable to grip brushes, tools, even cups of paint. At 70 I don't think I'm going to get much better so will continue to "paint" vicariously through your videos. Beautiful piece, Mark! The copper is the icing of the cake here. On the left side the copper lacings look like hot liquid iron under a broken crumbled surface that is about yo rise through the cracks. On the right side it looks like a wave with foam at sunset where the sunlight is turning the foam red. I like the blue tone of your mix of Prussian blue and white. Awesome work again 🖒💖 Regarding the techniques, maybe you fancy to pour over the bottom of a plastic botle with bright and happy flower colours? Would be fun to watch. Or a nice piece with more than one technique on it... 😉

When I read the title of your video, I was definitely intrigued. I never thought about leaving so much negative space, but you created a winner. Turquoise is up there on my favorite list, along with pink. However, I would love to see a shade of green. Would it be too moody if you did an evergreen, hunter green or maybe even a burgundy? Ce tableau est très réussi ! Bravo pour cette belle composition. Je suis aussi une grande fan du negative space ! Cela apporte une certaine profondeur et fait vraiment ressortir le motif. Je me demandais en regardant la vidéo, s'il ne serait pas judicieux de faire le premier swipe, l'étirer, et ensuite faire le second. Pretty, pretty, pretty! I'm just wondering what result you would or could get doing the same kind of swipe but with just silicone oil mixed in the paints instead of the more expensive ingredients like floetrol or owetrol. I guess what I mean is can you get the same or similar results on a budget? It would be good to experiment and find out. 😊

Yes you can! It’s a different kind of lacing but still creates lacing within the paint. The silicone leaves an oil though so needs cleaning before sealing,
