It would be GREAT if art schools could teach interpersonal relationships with artists because artists tend to be sensitive, it's often part of why they produce art, and there's a lot things that can happen when producing art that cause conflicts that are hard to navigate. And boundaries are really tricky when a part of the process is often talking about what you don't like about something that someone else made. Not all criticism is appropriate but not all of it is in bad faith either. Basically, artist need to know how to relate to art, how their relationship of their *own* art impacts them, how their relationship of *others* art impacts them, and how *other people's* relationship with their *own art* impacts them.

I recall another youtuber who briefly went over the RH story and it still annoys me that this 'school' doesn't allow it's students to use their work to better their career/future. Getting more insight and seeing a further break down I can confirm RH is more like a corporation they all work at instead of a school. If an art school exists/existed that prevented you from building and using your portfolio (their primary purpose) then I hope everyone sees it and RUNS.
@lightworker2212 жыл бұрын
This has been my exact complaint about Bella's expulsion. In what world does it make sense for a school to essentially not let you use anything from class in your portfolio? I read this as an unintentionally ironic take on Carter Bryant's story with Bratz and Mattel.

@@Yammerzaki123fr Carter Bryant created Bratz. Mattel and MGA have filed several lawsuits over the last 2 decades about who the Bratz IP belongs to. Mattel argued it was theirs because Bryant worked for them, but the counter argument was that he did that on his off time (vacation time and not on Mattel property) and pitched it to MGA. RH said that because Bella was a student there, she couldn't use her schoolwork to get an internship. That's like how Mattel claimed that anything Bryant made as an employee, whether on the clock or not, was Mattel's IP. (More to read on the Internet or the book "You Don't Own Me".) I think MGA was riffing the whole Mattel v MGA Bratz lawsuits with Bella's expulsion.

They knew Bella was going to leave from the start. I believe the teasers/early episodes showed that she had somehow left, so that was the big thing that they showed the series would lead up to. For example they showed previews of their big project at the end being disastrous and featured Jade saying that this wouldn’t have happened if Bella were here. the thing about dolls and ethnicity, as an Asian person, is that when the only change is the skin color and they all have the same face, it leaves me hanging in limbo. Is the one with black hair and lighter skin _really_ East Asian like me, or just a white person with black hair? They sure look the same as all the other dolls, and usually these things take place in pocket dimensions without race, so there's never any definitive answer. edit: I do mean this about all doll lines: there's a very popular tumblr post praising the diversity of newer Barbie dolls. Intrigued, I went to the site and found a total of... about three East Asian dolls. I collected research on this back then, but explicitly Asian Mattel dolls still do lag behind all other races in quality of representation.

I know the point is to have long flowing hair girls can style but I would really appreciate some short/medium length hair representation. I don’t want it to be tomboy either, because short hair doesn’t always mean tomboy. I don’t have a problem with tomboys but I really want a character who slays with shorter hair. And not the bob the principal has either, like something cute and fun. Idk. I know it’ll probably never happen but I can dream 💔

depending on how they prep the dolls for designs, demoes, production and etc, they might already have a rigged 3d model for each characters, which would make it faster to swap or add characters mid season

Yes all the characters are reskinned versions of each other but can't help but appreciate the amount of detail they went into making different outfits. Making all those 3D assets is probably where most of the budget went and some of the outfits are pretty cute. I wouldn't watch the show nor really care for anything it stands for but was an interesting video to watch nonetheless.

10:35 well actually originally Poppy was supposed to get kicked out but they didn’t want one of the main characters to get kicked out so they went with the more of a side character like Bella but they did make a doll of her after she got kicked out

I use a selfie stick just for taking selfies at home, since phone camera lenses have that thing where they make you look much worse than you do if you take a photo from a close range vs from a distance, so a selfie stick is good for that. For streaming with a phone people use a gimbal, MUCH different from a selfie stick lmao Also, Bella wasn't a doll yet when the episode of her being replaced happened.

23:57 I mean it’s debatable that every cartoon was flat out designed to sell toys. Hell the opposite is what caused the start of the 90’s renaissance. Not to mention that streaming services kind of kill that mentality in a weird way. Sorry the comment bugged me good video besides that.

They gonna release two spin-off series now as well so I’m wondering how’s that gonna be. Cuz one will be pacific coast ( where Bella might be the main character) and the other will be Shadow high which might interested you even more due to the edgy aesthetic they have and how they are made to be grayscale! But I just this doesn’t mean the main series will lose quality and they manage to add something more. I feel a movie will help the show a lot

I get that it's for kids and literally just made to sell dolls but as someone in actual art school, there's a lot that I felt didn't make sense about the show. If it's a "visual" arts school, why are there music, theatre, and creative writing focuses? Why is there such a focus on fashion at that school when there are so many other forms of art? Why don't they use the show to actually teach kids about different art forms and have those art forms be focuses, like printmaking, ceramics, painting, or photography? Why does the school seem to want its students to fail, like not letting the kids use their work for their portfolios which makes no sense (realistically bella should have been straight up encouraged to apply for internships), threatening to kick students out for the smallest stuff like not finishing a scavenger hunt, and being super cryptic and secretive about where the archive room is when that's something the students 100% should have access to if they need it for research?

I really like the high quality on the dolls, but I can't help but have a few gripes with RH. If you look at the first wave and blur your eyes a little, Ruby, Poppy, Skylar and Jade look just look like recolors of one another, especially with the hairstyles. The rainbow gimmick would work for maybe a sub-line, but applying it to the whole brand in some cases just doesn't really give a chance for the designs to pop, which they might have otherwise done with one or two more colors thrown in there. Most of the characters also have a very similar designer/glamourous fashion style, which makes it feel more homogeneous. You do have eg. Sunny who has harajuku inspired elements, but this stays at just elements. Compare this to Monster High where eg. Frankie was way more preppy, Lagoona had that beach aesthetic, Draculaura lolita, etc. There was still an underlying goth thread, but the dolls all had their own clear fashionstyle that set them aside. Ironically enough, RH is supposed to be a fashion school and I miss that diversity in sense of fashion.

Having _both_ Violet _and_ Sunny be character names just makes me think of _A Series of Unfortunate Events._ The Jim Carrey one, not the Netflix show. EDIT: A: thank you for explaining the phrase "break a leg" to me. I've been wondering about that shit my whole life, didn't expect it to be a dad joke lol B: I _think_ clothing designs might fall under patents rather than copyright, but don't quote me on that.

I actually bought the twins after just seeing them in store. I would love another Amaya (I have the blue hair one) but I'm not a big fan of the white hair that she was introduced with in the show, and iirc there's one other Amaya doll with another color hair but eh. Generally I just like the multitone hair dolls. Jett's split hair is cool, and the designs/hair of the rockers are pretty cool too

As far as copyright for clothes go, it's confusing to me. Certain aspects can be protected but bc clothing is considered an essential item it can't be completely protected. I think that's how fast fashion companies are able to copy designs

I honestly LOVE the series very much🤩 As an artist, I connect to a lot of the characters. It may be a little bit shallow in context, but that's what I like about it.. the somewhat innocence it inflicts reminds me of my childhood and how everything can go so so wrong, but in the end, there's always gonna be a rainbow. It talks about passion, relationships, and a touch of conflict for realism.. maybe it's just me, but this would be a dream if this was the high school I went to... it's just so appealing to me.

They should make a “create a monster” type doll. I know a lot of doll customizer want to do rainbow high but are a bit afraid due to the default face up. So they only buy one doll for their collection and sales stagnate. If you opened the door for customs the customizers would buy much more dolls and collectors would to because of the custom resale
