The best Violetta Valerys in the world are romanian: Virginia Zeani, Ileana Cotrubas and Angela Gheorghiu. Incredible is this performance of Angela. Extremely close to perfection....

I have this SUPERB performance on DVD, and I must say I find the entire cast excellent, especially Gheorghiu, in whose HIGHLY ARTISTIC rendition of this complex and tragically fragile character I found traces of both Callas and Zeani.

Funny people mention Cortrubas, because i was thinking it reminds me of her, yet Angela is more physically beautiful by a mainstream standard and the voice is clearer and diction clearer. I am not sure how IC projected into the house either, but im supposing Angela has a slightly more pointed, fuller voice.
