This property has been untouched for over 50 years now with nobody wanting to buy it. Every year, the city comes by and knocks the grass down due to it being super overgrown all the time. I decided to help the seller of the home make the property more presentable, so that it could potentially sell to a new owner. I do not know the exact history of this home, but it definitally looks old, rotted, and in need of a demolition. A neighbor stopped me while I was working and told me that both owners died about 50 years ago. Nothing has been done to it after they both passed.
I hope you enjoy the makeover. Take care, God bless you, and we'll see you in the next one :)

It always makes me sad when I see abandoned houses like this. This was once a home with families in it. I think of all the memories it must have. If I had the money, I would fix it up and make it a home again. You at least made the yard look nice. I hope someone drives by and sees the potential that I see. Thank you for caring.

It's been rotting for 50 years. It'd be cheaper and better in so many ways to raze the place and build a new house that looks like the old house. OTOH it's probably old enough to be lath and plaster (goodbye WiFi) but if there's drywall think good and hard because asbestos is expensive AF to get rid of.

My Godparents owned property just steps from Lake Huron. Over the years, other family members and their kids bought the property around them. Once the parents passed away, the kids for some reason sold the property to a complete stranger and then complained about having a stranger owning property in between family members just months later, after we all told them it would happen and to keep it in the family.

Re that rusted out thing you thought was for heating I believe is for oil used to heat the home. Someone has been paying the property taxes on that for 50 years then. So glad you didn’t get a rusty nail thru your foot! That is not 50 years of overgrowth, so I expect somebody has be doing yard care over the years. It looks like a nice area, hopefully somone will buy it and rebuild a new home one day. Good job!

I would have thought you could tell the year of the Buick Skylark by its rear license plate. The single round headlights were common in the 1970’s models. The oil tank on the side of 5he house probably fed fuel oil (diesel fuel) to a furnace inside. These furnaces are still common in parts of Ontario, Canada except that their fuel tanks are located in the basement to keep fuel from gelling or freezing in sub zero temperatures. Another great video sir, thanks for sharing this. Wishing you and your bride a blessed holiday season. Peace brother

@@catgynt9148 We had one of those oil tanks in our basement, right here in Ontario. My dad had a gas furnace installed however it was way too costly to remove the oil tank so it stayed until he sold the house in 2012. I never heard of the tank heating the oil to the furnace only that it fed oil to the old furnace. Also I'm old enough to say I used to drive a Skylark but not this model mine was a four door. The tank on the side of the home is an oil tank which means the home is heated by oil. Many tanks are underground but once replaced are above ground. It's a testament to the original builders that the house actually still stands despite the neglect. The right person with the right knowledge, bank account, and time could actually restore the house. I've seen homes in worse shape be brought back from the dead. The dates in the cement are amazing and made me feel a little sad -- that was definitely a home filled with family once. I worked for a city property tax attorney. There are many homes with unpaid taxes that can go back for years. Therefore, some of these properties fall to the bottom of the list. We worked on recent years first. Getting down the list of a 50 year old property is near impossible.

The tank as mentioned is used for heating fuel. Specifically heating oil. There is a boiler in the basement which is gravity fed the heating oil. The boiler heats water which is pumped through baseboard mounted pipes throughout the homes. It is referred to as a forced hot water system. I grew up in a home with this type of heating.

As the hot water was pushed through the baseboard heaters you would hear a little creaking and popping, not too loud. I grew up in New England and I can tell you the house never really got warm. @@gerarddinardo8238 Today's hot water radiators are much more efficient, the pipes and the house itself are insulated or everything disappears underground as underfloor heating. Together with solar power and highly insulated boilers, you can stay cozy and warm. Is it cheaper than heating with oil back then? Probably not, the technology costs money, even if the electricity is produced using solar power. I am fascinated by the technology of the Koreans (Ondol), they heat their floors with little wood, similar to rocket stoves, and store the heat in the surrounding stones and cob.

Great job as always! Someone’s already answered your questions of 1) year of the car and 2)the purpose of the tank. I’m 67 years old and had to think about the tank. We lived in farm style homes (like this property) but we had hot water radiators. I can only remember a few houses that used heating oil, usually used in apartment buildings back then. This house must have historical significance in your town because the lawn was done during the summer. Maybe the house was abandoned 50 years ago because there was a 76’ skylark still in the driveway. Interesting 🕵🏻‍♂️

The tank on the side of the house is a heating oil tank, 3 places you can read what year the Buick is, are on the tail lights, or signal lights, there should be writing on the lenses which say "Guide" followed by the year of manufacture, the third location under the hood, a sticker about emission controls with the year printed on a corner of the sticker.

I'm pretty sure that was a 1976 Buick Skylark. The tank at the side of the house was for heating oil. Great work on the cleanup. Thanks and we'll see you next time.

Fill, yes that tank beside the house was used for heating up the house. If I remember right I think it was used for oil heat. Goes straight to the furnace. That's also used for many Mobile Homes too.

Honestly, the edging with Edger still looks better, even on the slope. It gives the sidewalk more definition. Please don't stop. It also distinguishes and separates you from other youtubers here in the state. The aussies are more detailed, and that is what I like about your videos.

What a great job. As noted by another person who left a comment, the tank is for oil for heating. My grandparents had one connected to their home in New England that was about 3-4 times bigger so that they would only have to fill it once a year and not run out during the winter months. Hope someone finds this little gem to either rebuild or just tear down and put up something in the similar style.

I don't know, Fill; I think you did an excellent job. It looks so much nicer and neater. You're a one-man powerhouse. I've seen a few on here that couldn't care less for detail; you and George from Quick Cuts surely do! He's in Australia, so no competition! But you both are the best in my book!😊👍💛

hey fill, i always enjoy watching you do your job and the main thing i love is that you use baskets to put your trash in ... you are the only one (i watch 3 or 4 of you gents daily) i was excited to see that you were going to use your baskets but then you did it on your lunch break ... so, im disappointed but not devastated ... and i told my daughter and some of my other family members about how i enjoy watching you ... also, i have a 3 year old great nephew who loves to watch you too! God bless you for all your hard work ... get what you need to protect your lungs my friend ... take care becky

My first thought was, if the door isn't locked, open it and take a look! It should have a sticker inside the door. Your photo look like the lock was up so that may have worked. But I'm glad we have a lot of car people watching because they knew what it was. Beautiful job. I love the lush green lawn even though it was very tall. And I guess I must be old because I knew immediately that was an oil tank. Back in the day most if not all of the homes were heated by oil. My grandparents had theirs underground.

What a beautiful corner lot! There must be a new build just waiting to make it its home!. I know the neighbor and neighborhood are grateful for the clear walkway. That's either a propane tank or heating oil tank.

It was an oil tank for heating. Skylark was a "67" I think. The property looks wonderful after what you accomplished. I wish these old, abandoned houses could be fixed up for all the people what are without homes, especially in these colder days. It is presently 34 degrees F where I am. BRRRRRR. Thank you for all you do to help the communities. God Bless you.

That house has sat vacant for 50 years. The house is probably close to 115 years old. That is an old oil furnace tank. It’s a shame because a structure will last forever if you keep a roof on it, and have good soil drainage.

That is an oil tank that was used to heat the home. Growing up in Massachusetts our tank was in the ground. After many years they had to be removed and then my Mom had one installed in the basement.
