Took my wife last week to MD Anderson for a Cancer checkup and my neighbor came over all week, while we were gone to check on our cats. One loves to go outside everyday and comes in when the porch lights go off at 10 PM. (She has a food, water bowl and litter box in my shop and a pet door to get to them.) The other one just sits in the house all day and looks out the window. My sweet neighbor came over every morning at 8 am and let #1 go outside. And then went inside and hugged on #2. Then kept their food bowls and water full and even cleaned out the litter boxes for use. Usally when we leave town for a few days #1 is tramatized when we got home and it takes a few weeks before she gets back to normal. But My Neighbor is her new best friend. Caught them cuddling on the patio one night on my CCTV. Gotta love good neighbors!

This is normal for us. I've had the same neighbors for 40+ years. Called the elderly couple that lived next door "Aunt and Uncle". They passed a few years ago and I bought their house so I live next to my mother. We have block parties, and holiday get together and tea often. It is what being a neighbor USED to be before people became so disengaged with life around them. It is sad that this is now unusual. It used to be NORMAL!

Having good neighbors makes the neighborhood more peaceful and fun to live there. I had a few that when we moved in said hello asked if we needed anything and we all became great neighbors and friends. All older folks but that was fine. One couple moved to live near there son so we miss them and another that I helped everyday passed away. She was pretty much one of my best friends. Which people would tease oh get friends your age stop hanging out with a 75 year old lady. it was like NO I love her and we have things in common we like like gardening and reading! Plus older folks have the best stories and love to share life lessons as well as there own stories of life. I miss her everyday and always hope to get more neighbors that enjoy friendly convos and having coffee!

That’s how it was with my grandparents. I’m 47 yrs old & my 89 yr old Grand-paw died a year & a half ago, then my 92+ yr old Grandma passed away 3 weeks ago😢. I LOVED them. I adored them! I respected them. I took their advice. They were good democrats their whole lives! Subjects like politics & religion were never off limits to my Catholic grandparents, even though long ago, I decided to follow the Buddhist path (well, I try my best, that’s all any of us can do, right?). So I am not a Christian, but there was never any judgment (shown or felt) from them, just questions, good questions. They were very smart. Between the two of them, there weren’t many subjects they couldn’t help you with. But my point is… I enjoyed their company, as friends, because they were fun & pretty cool, in their own way! They were married well over 60 years and I think their sense of humor had a lot to do with them staying together, with 5 kids on a farm. Spending time with them was like hanging with best friends. I could totally be 100% myself & say what I really thought without worry of judgement and so could they! They always gave the best advice! Good people are hard to find. They were very good neighbors, too.

The only things (other then my 2 kids) that make me actually happy is to know how much the people I help appreciate it. They would NEVER ask. She heard that due to covid her contact had lost her job and was reduced to living on instant mash potato, and had become ill because of that. Mum sent them money to get them proper food including fresh veg and to get them back on their feet She also paid for the WiFi at our local vicarage because she knew that a priest's salary isn't massive and that they needed to be connected. I purposely order way too much fresh produce of all types on my FoodFund deliveries every Saturday then give it to the elderly and sick people that can't afford it to eat well. They think I only pay 40 for the order, but I don't tell them it costs me almost 100. I refuse to take any cash from them so hopefully they never see this post 😆 We have a few units in our small apt building that we take care of eachother when we can. 2 of us are single moms(I'm disabled) 1 lady is widowed and mid 80s(her family are horrible people) the other elderly woman has health problems and takes care of her chronically ill daughter that lives with her(mom is 71) I won't ever share pictures about it but with ANY luck my story and these stories will help people understand that we all need help sometimes. If we all took care of good people, think of the possibilities! Love and caring is infectious folks! ✌

I remember when I was little about 3-5 he invited me over to see his hen-house which at the time was a rabbit house. Then a few years later he gave me one of his rabbits as a pet. She passed away because I was about 7 and didn't know how to properly talk care of an animal yet, sooo my bad. But I swear everytime I see him outside, just me saying hello to him and him saying hello back makes my dad. He's such a nice man.

My apartment complex also has what I call a pantry table in the lobby. Residents can drop off items they don’t need so someone else can use them. I’ve been able to save a lot of money by getting some stuff from there. And I return the favor by leaving food I don’t like on the table so someone else can have it. Many people who live in the apartment complex I call home are living on low income, and many of them are seniors who have medical problems. There’s also some residents here who are disabled either physically or mentally. I fall into the latter category.
