Neighbors are asking officials who will pay the damages for surrounding homes after authorities detonated a massive amount of dynamite in a house in Holladay.

The city should not "figure out" how to do it. You submit your damages and the city pays 100%.

Won’t happen. City police have destroyed homes before and not paid a dime for damages. It falls under immunity while performing official duties. Ideally it would be the homeowner whose house contained the explosives, but good luck getting them to pay for any of this.

The city owes the home owners. Their insurance is not responsible for the cities action to detonate. And the city should be sued if they don't pay for the damages they caused by their thoughtless distruction. They could have handled this so much differently. They could have taken precautions. And the owners home could have been emptied. My gosh that dynamite had been there for years. How stupid of them to think it was going to explode right now if something wasn't done right away. Another EPA screw up for the books. The sky is falling, let's all lose our heads. All common sense goes right out the window or in this case their brains. This whole thing makes me realize that I can't trust those who should know how to deal with emergencies at all. What was different from all the other days before this one? Not much just a mercury spill that exposed more chemicals that were there for years. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Did they even think about or calculate the damage to the surrounding homes? How it would effect others who lived near by? How they could minimize the damage? Did they call someone who worked with explosives, like IRECO? I doubt it. Just plain senseless and then for the mayor to think their homeowners insurances will pay for the damages. Stupid is as stupid does.

First… wholly story! No way I’m reading all that… at least try breaking it into sections! Second, this is absolutely not at all one bit the responsibility of the city. I’m no fan of local government but there was a situation created by the HOME OWNER that required a specific outcome. Only a single party is responsible, and that’s the homeowner who stored DYNAMITE… in their home.

I guess you never heard the expression, “a ticking time bomb” before. You would be here blaming the city if they had left the dynamite and waited and it went off and killed someone. When it comes to life versus property, you always choose life. And you obviously have no idea how unstable old dynamite is. The lady is lucky that she spilled the mercury first and didn’t try and move the dynamite, she would have been killed.

open detonation, no attempt appears to have been made to contain the blast.who orchestrated the "controlled " detonation ? dont tell me it's a relative of barney fife
@HiThisIsMine
@HiThisIsMine Ай бұрын
Curious, how do you propose controlling the blast? Did you want them to place some sort of lead blanket over the house? Maybe a few sandbags over the unstable TNT would have controlled it? Maybe you know something that nobody else does about containing the explosive power of dynamite? Since we’re asking questions from someone who appears to know something nobody else does.. have you ever seen videos of how they blow up bedrock?

@@HiThisIsMinethey could have brought crews out to board the windows on nearby homes and yeah, some sand bagging would have helped immensely. The city did the bare minimum by evacuating people. More could have been done.

Why was the whole house blown up? Could they not have moved the dynamite to a safer place and blow it up there? Seems odd.
@Tuxedomakdarien
@Tuxedomakdarien Ай бұрын
They wanted to do that at first with a robot, but if the dynamite sticks fell or bumped into something the same thing would have happened. The dynamite had crystalized nitroglycerine on the exterior of the sticks which is really unstable.

It shouldn’t matter what their insurance is allowed for you detonated her home to resolve a crisis that you needed to, and you should be already had your boots on the ground, knocking on neighbors doors asking to access the damage to the homes so you can get quick ballpark on how much you need to spend to fix it and start your own callcalls to get quotes to reasonably fix the damages an offered to homeowners that you have a a crew that will come and fix the damages and basically go to the list of what needs to be done and that she will fix it to the original if you can because obviously probably new work, but still, you can certainly get the quotes and call homeowners if they want to do it and you can go ahead and go forward, but if they’re not willing to go and wanna go do their own quotes y’all just cut a check for the calls from the explosion and if they want more than that, they have to put the building their own cell if they’re not satisfied, but the least cut a check for the damages and make sure if you if it’s more than what they’re willing to cut a check for make sure you make an appointment with them and photograph what needs to happenif there’s more damaging what they actually make sure you keep the receipts but call them. Maybe they will come in give you another check for the.

File a lawsuit against the city immediately. The damaged home owners insurance is in no way liable for the cities extremely poor decision to detonate that dynamite in place. My company deals in explosives in our UXO division, and there were many ways to contain and move the explosives. The city fucked up massively.

Yeah it is kind of ridiculous how that happens even in an auto accident you get an auto accident and you've got to put a claim on yours to get immediate coverage to take care of your medical and whatever and then they get it back later from the party that's responsible but it still goes down as a claim on your insurance so you're a rates goes up no matter what happens and your penalized even though it was somebody else's fault insurance is the biggest money marketing scam money scam there is in our country

Yes, it could have been removed. Would you like to be the guy removing it? It was old and had deteriorated. When it gets like that it can blow up with the slightest jar. Insurance companies are in business NOT to pay out. This was negligence on the part of the city. No way any insurance company is going to pay for that damage. The only time an insurance company fights for the policy holder is if they are being sued to pay out.
