Neighbors despair as homeless vehicles persist on Portland's Southeast 94th Avenue

Drive down Southeast 94th Avenue right now and you'll see a street lined with homeless vehicles, but it's something neighbors have been seeing on and off for years.
The vehicles are no more than a hundred feet from their front door.
"It's wretched, it is awful. Between noise and smell and the general level of danger, it's a difficult spot to be in,” said one neighbor.

Alcohol is a drug, it's additive, and destroys more lives directly/indirectly than any other drug out there. There have always been drug addicts and alcoholics.. in the past there are flop houses they could go and get a bed for like $10 a night.. and there were tons and tons of cheap hotels.. today the cost of shelter is ridiculous.. the rental industry has lost its mind.. and is completely out of touch with reality in our current economic situation the rents about twice as high as it should be.. especially for what Portland has to offer.. people need to get off their butts.. and start protesting these apartment complexes.. rental companies.. and real estate companies.. to get the cost down.. put them under pressure..

When they are interviewed it is really common to hear I have been homeless for ten plus years. This whole housing first thing is just moving this stuff out of sight. I know many people would take issue with this suggestion, but how about using Delta Park as temporary spaces to locate these vehicles. The park is large and very accessible, which would allow police and city officials to easily monitor, maintain and access the area. RIght now these encampments are scattered all over Portland and are totally unmanageable. Delta Part would be ideal because it is still in the city and would allow these temporary residents the ability to avail themselves of local social services. There are no private landowners willing to give up, or allow use of their abandoned buildings, so it is time for city officials to step up and offer this possible solutions. And before you go down this "how much will it cost" road. Consider how much it is costing all Portland residents and the city in property value and livability, let alone the terrible reputation Portland politicians have hoisted upon the citizens. Because of incompetence, why would anyone want to relocate, or invest in Portland. It is a literal joke. Portland has an opportunity to turn this situation around. The only remaining question is " elected officials having the courage to move the city forward, as they promise each election cycle."
