My old Nottingham Head-Teacher - who was of the old school - loved informing us the odd pearl of wisdom, back in the 1980s. He would have made a great DOCTOR 1, as he appeared to be like William Hartnell. Besides telling me in the manner of Mr. Chips to - TAKE YOUR HANDS OUT OF YOUR POCKETS, STOP SLOUCHING AND PUT YOUR SHOULDERS BACK - my favourite was - BOYS, THERE IS ALWAYS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TAKING THINGS EASY AND PLAIN BONE IDLENESS ! He told me he learnt this nugget from an old 1960s black and white show - but couldn't remember it's name. I took the novel version of the programme to his study from the school library. The book . . . DOCTOR WHO AND THE ROMANS !

Science fact - but worthy of a time travelling Doctor - Scott and Travis turned up on a grassy traffic island one lunchtime in the 1980s. I thought my games and chemistry teacher were just chewing the cud together, as I was returning back to my nearby school. They beckoned me over. Steve had lost his moustache, and sporty Stubbsy now sported longer hair. They claimed they were actors, but couldn't really explain what they were doing. What paranormal things occurred in Nottingham !

In MARY POPPINS - you will hear a very Aussie sounding CHEROO - from Bert's chimney sweep friends. They are quite tiny guys poking their heads out of a Dalek sized chimney. For these were 1960s actors over from Australia - and one in that film was a real Dalek operator. John Lee from PRISONER CELL BLOCK H - and NEIGHBOURS Len Mangel - appeared in the first 1964 Dalek story.

For a very British show DOCTOR WHO is very Australian. The very first writer and creator of the police box TARDIS - was Anthony Coburn. His story was AN UNEARTHLY CHILD. Ron Grainer wrote the theme ! Bill Strutton wrote THE WEB PLANET - THE ZARBI.

I take it they have never watched the Peter Cushing films either. Australia showed THE AZTECS when the BBC thought it was lost or destroyed ! Considering MARK is really Steve - my chemistry teacher - from 1980s Nottingham, I would have thought a science man would have known. To his left is Australian games teacher - Stubbsy, who never travelled in a TARDIS - but in a QANTAS ! ! !
