A lot of trainers start this way. Some even refer to it as a ready position. Hands resting in front of does not seem nearly as threatening as covering your strong side in anticipation.

This is a very normal starting position when doing drills, it’s not about ‘in da streets’ it’s about a consistent starting point for measuring performance.
