I envy Neil Breen for his lack of self-awareness.
@UMAMIMAMU Жыл бұрын
What makes you think he lacks self-awareness? Can you not fathom that he's well aware of the fact that a majority of people think his movies are trash, yet doesn't care? Is it _really_ *that* *crazy* for someone to continue doing something that they truly have a passion for? Why do other people's opinions matter so much? I'm gonna safely assume he probably doesn't spend very much time paying attention to, or addressing people that aren't into his work. Essentially, what his detractors are mainly saying is "Dude, you should really stop making movies because I don't think they're any good.". I mean, let's play fair........does the latest Marvel or DC dumpster fire cash-grab *_REALLY_* have any more artistic or entertainment merit than Twisted Pair or Fateful Findings? Personally, I find it hilarious that despite all the huge and historic film budgets, today's Hollywood just churns out turd after turd after turd. At least Neil Breen's movies, *_if_* they suck, didn't cost $200,000,000 and have A list actors in it. When you have all the money in the world at your expense, and all the talent in the world available to you, and you *STILL* can't make a decent flick? THERE'S NO EXCUSE.
@qwijbo11 ай бұрын
@@UMAMIMAMU I mean I get your point, but clearly Neil Breen lacks self awareness and quite frankly if he gained any then probably the magic of the film he makes would be gone. Look at any deliberately badly made film like birdemic or sharknado or all that stupid shit. They are, in my opinion, not even watchable because it has this underlying sense of irony which is tiresome and pretentious. Neil Breen clearly has no idea that his films are genuinely bad and ridiculous, so they are sincere and that this is why people love them.
@joeygarza955011 ай бұрын
@@qwijbo Thank you, you make a good point, and this is just one reason why I envy his self-awareness. I'm not saying he's stupid or that he should "stop making movies" like UMAMA seems to be thinking (or projecting) I just think my self-consciousness, or self-awareness, gets in my way and prevents me from making a similar low-budget attempt. It's certainly not cowardice because if you're not self-aware then there's certainly no bravery or courage involved in Neil Breen's process. He's just a guy who has some money to spend on small-time productions, which are clearly endearing in their own way _precisely because of his lack of self-awareness._ Furthermore, it would take a completely cynical idiot to make the claim that Neil Breen's lack of self-awareness is deliberate, because that would make him an actor with a talent on the same level as John C Reilly, who portrays Dr. Steve Brule, a character who also lacks self-awareness. Neil Breen clearly is not a character, he's the real deal; the person you see on camera is the same person you'll get off camera.

I totally understand your point mate and I champion your words. However, just imagine how great a filmmaker Neil would be if he channeled all of that power and creativity and then nuanced it by taking on the feedback he receives. Being passionate is great. But without a vice or harness back to the real world, no matter how small, we are just wasting potential. Neil seems to be on his own track and that’s admirable if it’s what he loves to do. But blindly just churning out your dreams is not a recipe for success in any walk of life. If Neil’s goal is to just ‘create’ and express himself, then more power to him, what a legend. But if the goal is to be a successful filmmaker for the right reasons, rather than to be the Master of the Z Movie, he’s following the wrong track. I like the guy either way.

The only thought that they provoke is the level of sanity that someone was in while he wrote the script, while he built the set, while he acted, while he edited it. So, it essentially makes one question the sanity of a man who writes such fluent, senseful, easy to follow plots.
