Are atomic models just tiny Solar Systems? Is it just Solar Systems all the way down? Neil deGrasse Tyson gets to the heart of those questions as he offers an informed rebuttal.
Why don't some of our smaller planets have moons? Neil delves deeply into the laws that govern planetary physics. Learn about the struggle for Gravitational Influence. How many moons does Jupiter have? The answer may surprise you.
Of course, Neil doesn't miss an opportunity to remind everyone why Pluto isn't a planet either. He explains eloquently why Pluto doesn't make it into the club, while also tackling other planetary questions; Why are planets round? Why do we have seasons? Why does the tide come in and out? All this, and more, will be answered by your personal astrophysicist.

I'm not sure why this content couldn't just be shown on Star Talk. Seems strange to me, but I'm not complaining as I love Neil, Chuck and their contributors.

It’s amazing how many people confuse theory with hypothesis. So many times I hear people say “it’s just a theory” when a theory means it’s a is scientifically proven fact

Great content as always! One respectful piece of feedback though: The background music on these has been distracting. Maybe just too loud compared to the words, or frankly unnecessary. Let the words speak for themselves and not distract from the comprehension please.

Neil, what do you think about this Hypothesis? We live inside a massive blackhole. The universe and everything we see and know is inside a blackhole. The Big Bang we know, happened when part of the "actual" universe was sent into a Blackhole but this time carried some interesting material. And with that material, our universe was born (The big Bang). This blackhole we live inside is ever expanding and has no limits or end. The real universe is full of light and life and advance civilization and of course they stay away from this black hole for good reasons. As such, they have no knowledge of our existence as they have yet to travel into a blackhole as well.

Could that statement, "the earth is slowing down" relative to the sun explain why climate is changing, i.e. hotter?
@fromnorway643
@fromnorway643 2 ай бұрын
No, because the global climate has been both warmer and colder in the past while the Earth's rotation has been slowing down. The physics of how the greenhouse effect works is now quite well understood, and there are no known natural forces that can explain the current warming.

Can we just give Pluto an honorary status? If it has logical reasons "not" to be a planet I can accept that but even in other areas we use things like "classic" or something. Call it a new planetary model system and then label the old one accordingly. No?

One part got me confused. please elaborate for anyone who’s reading this. “Moon is trying to slow earth down so that one day on earth equals one month for the moon” That being said means moon is somehow trying to swap places in the future? (So one earth day be = 1 lunar month instead of current opposition)

Feel free to disprove this hypothesis.Different parts of the universe had different origins.Some were due to the collision of different objects causing particles to fly apart at different speeds.This explains why the universe is shapeless & why some cosmic objects are moving apart & some are moving closer & why some are moving apart at accelerated speeds.The universe is too complex for simple explanations.
