I think that we where exceptionally gifted in the 90's, because the music, films (not so prudish ), and the disco's where all about fun, and dancing. I am not saying that fights did not happen but most people went to Disco's for the music and meeting people, and we didn't need drugs to do it. I hate what the world has become.

There are so many good singers who helped us survive the 70's and 80's. It's just difficult to say who is the greatest of all times. What we do know is that their music touched our heads and hearts long before our feet reacted. As for Neil Diamond I was but a child in the 70's just over 6 when this song was rotating. But I have gone back to rediscover some of his songs and apart from the richness of the music one thing stands out and that is how much each song sounds like an orchestra playing.

I have this memory frozen in time of this song...growing up in the early seventies, and an older friend who had fallen in love for the first time. I stopped by her house on a Saturday to find her listening to a 45 of this record, on one of those record players that opened up from a little suitcase. It was broken, and it would stop going round, but she would turn it with her finger to keep it going. She didn't care if it sped up or slowed down, she just had to hear it some more. I just stood there watching her play it over and over, thinking about that boy, wondering about love and what secrets this song held for her ❤

Music isn't a generational thing... I'm 41. Good music is good music, period. Most music I listen to is from the 30's through the 70's. I love the 80's too. From Sinatra to Skynyrd, I welcome it all.

1970 had some great music, especially the summer time. Neil is one of my brother's favorite. Sad to hear is suffering now, and has to quit touring. This was a great time in American music. You can hear them over and over again, but when you actually hear it when it came out, it is a totally different feeling. Best of health to you Mr. Diamond. WE were all so very young when this song came out. It was the year I turned 18. I was married and my husband had turned 21. It was the year in Canada that the age to go to a bar or pub as we called it, was lowered to 18, ironically just after he turned the old legal age of 21. So that year we could both legally drink alcohol. He did not think it was funny at all. We managed to stay married quite happily for 35 years. To my surprise, he called it quits and the joke was on me as the BEEGEEs sang. Still love him and I’m 73 this year. Still love Neil and this song.

As a child, while my sister was listening to pop rock, I was listening to Neil Diamond. I didn't discover him until the mid-70s (thanks to my aunts who loved him and played his music whenever I went to visit) because I wasn't born until 1966 when he was first beginning his career, but I have loved him all these years (am now 51). I saw him in concert at the end of his Love in the Round tour (in 1993). It was the happiest day of my life (until I saw Prince in concert in 1998! - my second greatest love next to Neil)

This was the song that made me fall in love with Neil Diamond. Ten years old and many years later, I still love him. That little cry in his voice is so well placed, sometimes there's an unintentional cry or crack in his voice and I really love that. Don't know why, maybe it's like he's vulnerable or something. I'm saddened by the news of his Parkinson's. Just like Glen Campbell and Alzheimer's. Damn, I'm getting old.
