I first saw Neil on TV in 1966...singing Solitary Man...I was only 11 yrs old...but there was something about him that drew me to him....I've followed him ever since and I saw him a couple of times...a fantastic performer who writes from the heart such soulful music. Yes something about him! The beautiful voice and handsome face. America's RocknRoll "Musical Poet Laurete. " Simply The Best ". You were my deceased love's fave also. When we knew you were coming to town we would camp out for front row seats. He did get to shake Neil's hand here in Cincinnati. You will always be a part of my youthful good memories carrying me through my sunset years. Thanks for the music and memories. .

Saw your Hot August Night tour in 1972 in San Diego. Since then I’ve seen you about 16 times from SLC, Boise, Denver. My granddaughters grew up to your music and have been with me to your concerts. Your 50th Hot August Night tour in SLC was FABULOUS, absolutely Fabulous. God Bless you always and for your music which has lifted my spirits many many times. I listen to you for hours on end. Oh, this is wonderful, to at least hear the man's voice! Sad to hear that Neil's birthday party also has to happen on Zoom. But it shows that he is just like most other people in this monstrous situation. Thank you for this. Oh, "Shiloh" was about Neil's pet dog? That's the first time I have heard this. I have always wondered. "Shiloh" has always been one of my favourite songs of his, because I connected it to the Shiloh Ranch from The Virginian, which I also loved very much and still do! I used to want to be part of the cast and live on the Shiloh Ranch as a teenager. Happy Birthday!

Mr. Diamond, I was so lucky to attend your concert in Houston, TX. Included in your songs was not the only gift of music but of showmanship. I remember shortly after you sang a song, I cannot say I remember the song because you suddenly turned around facing your band and moved those hips to the left and right...and all the ladies began to show their admiration (hee-hee). It was a first-time experience for me. I had lots of fun. And just recently I discovered that we have the same birthday. You are in my prayers as I and your fans wait for your next hit song. after i lost my hearing at 18 months old i heard God's voice through Neil Diamond s music n songs if I can't meet him in person its going to be doomsday i could've healed n cured him from Parkinson's disease n he should've been back on that 50th annaverse tour that was so important through out the heavens n the universe

You mean ,re-discover.Because it was Neil who said that he wrote it about his childhood imaginary friend from the time that "Shilo" was released in the 1967 up until a few days ago! I believe that after the song became a hit,Neil named one of his new dogs Shilo.He has been a great dog lover ever since,as is his wife.So this new association to a dog makes sense.The imaginary friend from the 1950's simply fades from memory.

Neil Diamond was in 1977, four days on Tour in Netherland.there were problems with the Hammond organ (110 Volt America-Europe 220 Volt) I'm approached by Lou van Rees Management for a solution to my Hammond Rent.After four days I got my B3 Hammond returned with Fire spots of @t frustrated me.They have me removed me from the Neil Diamond Fan Club because I had this listed on their site.Never Excuse of Neil Diamond ;-(

Nice interview.But gotta love when songwriters change the story of what a song is about (after 54 years!) to fit a simplified narrative!It is very unlikely that Neil wrote "Shilo" as a teenager about his dog.For one thing,it is unlikely that Neil had dog as a teenager (look at the old footage that his dad shot).The imaginary childhood friend makes much more sense."Shilo" could only be written by a maturing adult around 1967 reflecting on his lonely youth.

In later years he changed the story and said that having seen a photograph of Caroline Kennedy riding a horse had inspired him to write the song. I think Neil uses some poetic license (as opposed to lying) at times!

@@sequencerman5 As one of Neil's biggest fans and followers on earth i wholeheartedly agree with this fact about Sweet Caroline too. I think your thoughts of a "poetic license" is fair when songwriters do this. It's not that the are necessarily lying.... But sometimes I think how awful it'd be to have tens-of-thousands of questions directed at you for multiple decades, and the majority of them being recorded in some way. So yes, sometimes the answers just have to "fit the moment"..... Sometimes interviewers will throw you off-guard or keep digging until they get what they want to hear. Who on earth could keep everything we've ever said (or answered) all straight? And 30 or 40 years later people pull out recordings of you where you may state something totally different.
