Neil was also my mother's all time favorite. She planned her own funeral in advance and didn't want any sad or religious music. She wanted people to leave with a smile on their face. Neil greatest hits was played and everyone left singing Sweet Caroline. This song still gives me happy memories

Recorded in 1969 at the legendary American Sound Studio hit factory in Memphis, Sweet Caroline (Good Times Never Seemed So Good) went on to become an instant classic and world wide hit for singer songwriter Neil Diamond. The muse to what has become Neil's signature tune was his wife Marcia but the name came from a magazine article about President John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline. Played everywhere from sporting events to weddings (not to mention countless covers - including Elvis), "Sweet Caroline" was selected by the US Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" in 2019. Sadly, Diamond, one of the greats of the rock era, retired from public life in 2016 due to the onset of Parkinsons. This, however, is a brand new version of the song which Neil has bravely recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra on an album titled "Classic Diamonds". Set for release on the 20th of November, it features 14 of his best known songs given the full orchestral treatment. Well done Neil on giving us all a second chance to hear your "Beautiful Noise".

It's such a beautiful, romantic song. It's amazing to me how it turned into a sporting event sing-along and party song - but it works! You can sing it quietly or shout it to the world. Neil & the LSO need to do a volume 2 like they did with Elvis. I realize this is a little different since Neil actually re-recorded the vocals to go with the arrangements but he certainly has a large enough catalogue.
