Certainly my favorite. Has so much range, and tells such a compelling story. The fake controversy after its release was just sweet, because I love hearing the Catholic church whine about being some sort of oppressed, beleaguered victims when they're still one of the wealthiest religious organizations the history of the world. I'm doing well and wanting to jugg your memory and bring up a song that you both reacted to called The Call by The Neal Morse Band and Randy George is also the bass player in that band as well and it has been a bit since you two had done that reaction and you didn't noticed the band members but you thought that the song was great and I love this song that you were reacting on this page as well as I loved The Call by NMB and hopefully you'll get to hear some of my other songs from my list one or two songs at a time soon enough!! Man, you should listen to the whole album, it is a concept album. The first song « The Door » is even better in my opinion, and in « The Conflict », there are a lot of references to « The Door ». Great reaction man !

I first saw Mr. Big open for Rush in 1990. So here's how it went for me: Mr. Big (ft. guitarist Paul Gilbert) > Paul solo > Racer X (Paul's metal band) > Yellow Matter Custard (Beatles cover band ft. Paul, Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse & Matt Bissonette) > Neal Morse solo > Neal Morse Band. Over the past 30+ years I have acquired every new release in turn from all these entities. If my music library consisted only of the music created by these artists (including RUSH), and my concert-going experiences included only the times I've seen them live (which has been every chance I get), I would be entirely satisfied.

Randy George on bass was formerly in Seattle C-Prog band Ajalon, then began playing with Neal on Neal's solo albums before the formation of the NMB (where he is still filling the bass role). Randy has also released 2 excellent solo albums - "In the Light of the King" and "Action Reaction". Former Ajalon member Wil Henderson is also a performer on this album / song.

Thank you so much for listening to this. Many people avoid Neal Morse's solo work (not the Neal Morse Band) because of the Christian content. I love it. I don't mind the praise/worship music they play at my church, but I prefer Neal's prog stories much more. Paul Gilbert also does a great guitar solo during the last section of The Door, the first song on Sola Scriptura.

Ich liebe es, wenn Neal den andern seine Ideen "vorsingt" und die bombastischen Parts mit Armbewegungen wie ein Dirigent untermalt :-) apropos making of: du kennst nicht zufälligerweise die making of von DT's Systematic Chaos - krasse Einblicke, wie die arbeiten... und ich weiss jetzt warum James Mike nicht mehr leiden konnte....

@@theheepster LOL DOPPEL LOL TRIPPEL LOL - Riverside war heute im Briefkasten und wird gleich aufgelegt, kenne schon 3 Songs - konnte bei youtube nicht wiederstehen... und Wucan - IS A MUST ... bin ganz schön angefixt von Francis und den Boys, hoffe, sie dieses Jahr zu sehen ... und ich verrate dir 2 Geheimnisse 🙂 ich habe die VHB im comment angetextet ob sie Bock auf'n Interview mit Nick hätten, bekam die Management Adresse, habe hingeschrieben, und die Lady sagte, sie könnte Mikko und Nick "connecten". Nick hat die Mail, ich hoffe, die kommen zusammen und wir können dabeisein. Und dann habe ich einfach die Macher der Night of the Prog angeschrieben und VHB empfohlen .... Antwort : wir nehmen sie auf die Liste, arbeiten im Moment noch an den Headlinern ... ist alles etwas später dieses Jahr ... Wär doch geil, wenn beide Aktionen erfolgreich wären. Weisst du eigentlich dass Nicknlex heute 2jähriges haben ? bin mal gespannt .. letztes Jahr gab es ja den Live Chat ... ich lag mit Corona in Quarantäne und habe mich um 4 in der Früh gemeldet ... grosses Hallo .. hat ja keiner mit gerechnet 🙂

Thanks so much for the wonderful reaction! I really don't know who plays guitar in each section. This album was from 2006 and was a Morse solo project. When he toured Europe he gathered local musicians to play (this was before the present lineup of the Neal Morse Band). The best live concert footage from the NMB is the song Alive Again in which they all change instruments in the middle of the song (Portnoy on bass, Neal Morse on drums, and Eric Gillette on Keys). It is some of the most mind blowing live footage I've ever seen. It is however 30 minutes long....but it has been reacted to at least three times on You Tube. Ps, Jim Newstead's reaction channel just did Transatlantic's full album The Whirlwind. Check him out. He does full album reactions. He has done SMPTE and Bridge Across Forever in addition to The Whirlwind.

Hey,Nick! Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet,but...Neal's various works aren't on Spotify because he has his own streaming service on his site that includes everything he's involved in,past thru present. It's called 'Waterfall'. This said...I think most of his stuff is up on y-tube as well (where you are obviously finding it). Cheers and keep going down this wonderful rabbit hole! Regards, T

Just finished the reaction today,Nick...wanted to add: Neal has his own record label- Radiant Records. So..to your inquiry,Neal's assorted projects are NOT available through the typical larger/major labels like some music. So the promotion is more grassroots/word of mouth with his material. That said-- he's well known in the modern prog circles,as his releases speak for themselves. Agreed that it's hard to break through to a mainstream crowd,but as you can hear--well worth checkin into. And-- DEF worth spreading the word,bro! keep rolling the dice with his music. You will continually discover his greatness...guaranteed! Cheers, T :-)

The part at 25 minute mark, you said Paul Gilbert but this is actually all Neal Morse! To my knowledge, Paul's contribution to this album is the EPIC solo at the end of track 1 (The Door)

I have been listening to Gilbert for 15 years. All his albums all his side projects. I just know his phrasing so I am pretty sure when I said this its gilbert it was him. Once section sounded like someone else so I am sure that was Morse.

I just looked up the notes on the record its all Gilbert doing the classical guitar and "Flamenco bit" plus all solos except that solo that sounded a bit more laid back. Its always good to check 👍

@@NicknLex Neal Morse fan here ! Paul plays the crazy solos at the beginning and during the flamenco section. Although, the classical section as well as the rythm guitar during the flamenco section is all Neal (the solo towards the end too). Paul does play the solo at the end of The Door, which I couldn't recommend enough. It's 29 minutes and so, so worth it !

Can there be more fun than listening to this ? YES ! I get my Momentum LIve DVD and listen AND watch 🤘 And I tell you, Eric Gillette and Adson Soadre are doing a great job on their guitars. I can say that, because I saw them live in 2013. The Conflict is a great epic and so is the other one on the live DVD - World Without End - unfortunately with 33 minutes too long for a marathon☹ The Conflict is rocking really good and has many great changes. So does World Without End, being a bit more bombastic in the way of Kansas. After the tour Adson Soadre had to go back to Brazil as his visa expired. Neal Morse named the guys and him Neal Morse Band thereafter, publishing one single CD and 3 double CDs since 2015 ... in addition to everything he did with Transatlantic, Flying Colours and solo, this man is a "creativity beast". Mike Portnoy and Randy George have been at his side since he started his solo career and I can remember a picture of Mike Portnoy showing the more than 20 records Neal and he have recorded together ... it might even be 30 by now.

I won't be popular writing this, I assume: Can't bear this music anymore. Too busy and pretentious. I used to love the first 2 Spock's beard albums. Then they lost me. Like Flower kings (the first were good), Transatlantic (first one ok), Flying color and other super groups, too much music to digest, too similar kind of prog metal clichés and lots of over demonstrative useless music. BORING!

Check out the band IQ. A lot less busy and easier to digest. Maybe start with the album The Seventh House or Dark Matter from 2001 - 2004
