When I was in high school music class in the early 70’s, our teacher explained lyrical progression. It didn’t sink in just as she knew it wouldn’t. She played “Calendar Girl” on a .45 single and the light went on. Neil Sedaka and everyone else who came out of the Brill Building left a giant mark.

This is a great video. First, Neil was a very talented and hard working guy. His not being in the R&R Hall of Fame is almost a crime. This video was made in 1966 for a great concept but it was not yet time. Beautiful girls, may favs are April and Feb. To think of it, with the passing of 57 years, these girls are now probably late 70's to early 80's. Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers. Still what beauty and charm.

Neil Sedaka pulled off quite the coup with this one. He managed to get a song about pin-up girls on the radio in 1961.

Ah, the early 50s/ late 60s...back when it was totally acceptable for a grown man to sing songs about loving 16 year olds

+SploodgeHero Well I suppose he was only appealing to the target demographic. This song would have appealed to adolescents aged 13-20, so why not write relatable lyrics for teenagers to be able to sing along to?

+SploodgeHero I guess some people think (on particular songs they wish to do so) that the singer is singing solely from his/her point of view. My feeling is this song is written and performed to appeal (as Dat Darwin Dude states) to a demographic...to be sung by teen boys to their teen girlfriends so they have songs they relate to. Most songs are not to be interpreted as the singer relaying a real life story that happened to him/her on the way to the studio. But I could be wrong...
