Hi Neil. Requested this song for you to perform many years ago in Sudbury, ON Canada when you played at the Grand theater. You were having supper by yourself at the Chinese retardant by yourself. I did not want disturb you so I gave the waitressa note with this request written on it. My wife died in 2000 and I will always remember our Hungry Years. Thank you Neil for all the songs and speciality and for The Hungry Years. Yes, as time goes on and we lose ourselves in our success and financial achievements we lose sight of what is most important "THE HUNGRY YEARS"

I have just discovered Mr. Sedaka's daily mini concerts. WOW at 81 still thinking of his fans. I signed the petition for him to be in the hall of fame..........seriously not there!!!!! SHAME. I always felt he was just your not so average sweet man, doesn't have to push his talent, its right there for you. Love you Mr. Sedaka. By the way I lived a few blocks down from him on the upper eastside. I'd see him with his son. Never intruded in his personal time so never stopped him for an autograph.

Really this song "The Hungry Years" os a Neil Sedaka's masterpiece! And How good-looking he is nowadays!!! I'm a Brazilian Man who knew Neil Sedaka in 1950's Years,the begining rock'n'roll Years singing "Diana" and "Oh, Carol!" O esse 7 or 8 Years old! How Lucky I esse knowing Elvis Presley and Neil Sedaka in 50's and The Beatles in 60's, Frank Sinatra and mainly Johnny Mathis since I saw him as himself singing "A Certain Smile" in 20th Century Fox romantic movie of same mame starring Joan Fontaine, Rossano Brazzi and The Young Girl Cristine Carrere! William Holden And Neil can still hit the high notes with his still crystalline voice. I saw a video that was only a few years old of Neil performing "Solitaire" and it was the same key as his original recording...extremely rare!! Billy Joel is much younger than Neil but Billy, with his immensely beautiful voice, has lost that famous range he had. No shame, it happens to most...not Neil.

A girl i used to date in college broke up with me because she said im immature childish and lacking ambition. No plans for the future. She is now a retired municipal judge and single. I didnt did so bad considering i had two wonderful sons. And an accomplished agriculturist whom i give her credit for opening my eyes and changing me. I sometimes met with her. In a moment of weakness we wonder if if it was worth it. Did we made the right choice. Are we happy and satisfied. Yes we were fine. Hungry years listening to this song made us cry.

Think how hard it was to get Brooklyn out of his speech Love them all The song he sings with Dara is the greatest
Jeez, I dont play this very often, because if i play it once, than i have to play about 9/10 different versions of it. Sedaka has always been a brilliant songwriter, with a lot of catchy tunes, but the 'Hungry years' is the best thing that he has ever written by far, its just the saddest peice of music that i have ever heard, the poignancy is off the scale, a bit like they always had what they strived for, it really beautiful.

By that time I just listened to and either loved or hated the songs I heard on my car radio driving to work. This song I loved. Never paid attention to who the dj said sang it. If the dj said it at all. So interesting to find this out now. Neil has been giving throughout my life with his amazing songs that meant so much . And I didn’t even know it.

I could not be sure, but the successful pair may have been Karen and Richard Carpenter...she died in 1983...Upon hearing of her death Neil Sedaka was reported to have said: "I am shocked and saddened by Karen Carpenter's death" singer Neil Sedaka said in Las Vegas. "It is a waste of a young, vibrant life and we lost one of the great pop voices of our time" Karen gave a stunning performance of Neil Sedaka's "Solitare" in 1975...a year after Neil had recorded it... It is a guess on my part, that "The Hungry Years" was written about the Carpenters. Neil Sedaka is truly an American Treasure...with a golden voice, a wonderful sense of lyrics and music...and an example of a fine father, husband and human being.

No - he's not talking about Karen and Richard Carpenter. He's talking about a couple that he knew from their very beginnings - Sonny and Cher.;

The truth is, This song was written about James & Betty Corrigan who owned the Batley variety club, UK. James Corrigan was from a fairground background "Gold Ring from the Carousel" and he went on to make millions with the club and lost it all.. Neil performed at there club many times in the 60s & 70s and was a very close friend to them.
