Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. I had just reached my teens when the Great Neil Young released Harvest. My god what an amazing litany of songs this master has penned, perhaps the absolute pinnacle of singer-songwriter capability and soul altering presentation. I was lucky enough to live near and in the Santa Cruz, Calif. area when he did a lot of, spur of he moment, el cheapo gigs for $5. in clubs around town. Holy crap I am one lucky guy, Thanks Neil, my life is better having lived it with your songs to hum.

this man is a genius. He looks like a bag man. If you seen him on the street i bet 99% of the people would think this man is a bum. Yet he is one of the greatest artists of my lifetime. I am very lucky to have been born in 61. I got to live through all these great artists. Its a shame they are dying out and you rarely hear their music on the radio anymore. Unless your on the oldies station. What a shame todays youth has zero clue of the music that is out there and is fading away. WHAT A SHAME!

I was 15 first time I heard this song, AFTER THE GOLD RUSH. We were poor and hungry from where I came from. I had no idea what this song was all about due to my lack of English. Even though I liked the song there was a certain sense of sadness I couldn't understand. Fast forward, I will be 68 this year and stumbled on this song on You Tube. I researched the full meaning of this song. According to WIKIPEDIA the song had 3 sections/verses: 1. First section - celebration of Earth. 2. Second section - the chaos, wars, stupidity that are destroying our beloved Earth. The "friend" on this song I believe were the Scientists who warned us 35 years ago (actually earlier in the 70's) about global warming and that slow destruction of the Environment. 3. Third section - EVACUATION OF EARTH, the end of Humanity's existence on Earth. The "Chosen Ones" boarding space ships to a new planet/home in the Sun Solar system. I BROKE DOWN AND CRIED😪😪😪

How strange ! I was just playing this on my guitar and i thought i'd listen instead. This is the version i picked to listen to and i couldn't believe it, the first time i ever played this myself was on a bellows harmonium exactly like the one in this video!! It's wrong the way everyone turned on the guy. He went too far but when they start saying he's not any good or his music isn't meaningful anymore it's just too much. There has to be some respect for what people have done and who they are as human beings. Even if Young didn't even abide by that standard this time around there should be some grace given and understanding. This song is one of the most beautiful pieces the world has ever produced.
