I was at that show. It was 2 months after I had a heart attack. My wife gave me 2 tix. Front Row, my wife does not really like Neil so I took my daughter who grew up with Neil playing all the time. It was great!

I took a friend to his 1st Neil show at this one. ALL I really wanted was "Powderfinger". :) If aliens ever come to earth and ask me to define rock n roll, I'm givin 'em Crazy Horse.

I still get a kick out of Neil's unorthodox movements on stage. Poncho and Billy keep that mellow, tight groove with Ralph, and Neil floats right on top of it. Musical bliss.

one time I saw neil live where he spent a good hour going through hurricane, cortez the killer, powderfinger and down by the river. they were so into each song that after the run I was left in stunned awe. blown away. nothing is better than neil and co., getting into it live.

Had "Powderfinger" on a bootleg cassette tape from a live show from at least a year before it came out (1978), and was playing it for anyone I could; "You have to hear this song!!!". Still loving it over 40 years later.

Saw Neil play with the Bluenotes in the Monarch Room in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. My friends and I purchased a table adjacent to the stage. Ol' Neily came right up to us as he was doing a blistering lead on a song. I was sitting on far end of table. He stood there for a second, stared right into my eyes as he made those steel strings scream! I could have died and gone to heaven right there.

I love this song but at the same time, it evokes emotions of sadness in me. When I first heard the beginning of this song, Vietnam (conflict my foot) instantly hit my stomach deep sadness there, for🇺🇸 our men. Then I felt the Native Americans, and in Canada too surly must have seen and experienced men with guns, just like that, with whatever type boats from their time. Untold thousands of people through history have experienced in one form or another those same emotions of fear, but wanting to be brave. From one time period, on down, of one war to the next. ☮️👣.Yet I still listen to this song, maybe once a day. As old as I am, I still have faith and hope.

Neil Young still stands as the best illustration that it's what you play on your guitar, not how much or how fast you play. Spine-tingling emotional stuff!

Play "Powderfinger" Look out, Mama, there's a white boat coming up the river With a big red beacon, and a flag, and a man on the rail I think you'd better call John 'Cause it don't look like they're here to deliver the mail And it's less than a mile away I hope they didn't come to stay It's got numbers on the side and a gun And it's making big waves Daddy's gone, my brother's out hunting in the mountains Big John's been drinking since the river took Emmy-Lou So the Powers That Be left me here to do the thinkin' And I just turned twenty-two I was wondering what to do And the closer they got The more those feelings grew Daddy's rifle in my hand felt reassuring He told me, Red means run, son, numbers add up to nothing But when the first shot hit the docks I saw it coming Raised my rifle to my eye Never stopped to wonder why Then I saw black And my face splashed in the sky Shelter me from the powder and the finger Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger Think of me as one you'd never figured Would fade away so young With so much left undone Remember me to my love I know I'll miss her

I just went & checked out lyrics as I'm trying to figure out what I missed as to why the shootings going on... well I saw my favorite Powderfinger video, that I can't find now on utube & I really liked it cause Neil looked like he was about 15 singing Powderfinger... & well near the lyrics page there was some psycho analizing going on & here I 'll add my own; I revisited awesome historical spots back east when I was about 15 & being from CA I was inspired by the nature I saw in Virginia, Maryland ect, & I think the song is about imagining oneself back in an earlier time & different life circumstances one could have been in, Powderfinger reminds me of Southern Man where again one might imagine a different time , place, circumstances & be inspired in case of Southern Man also history of white supremacy & write about it. I did alot of exploring, imaging , playing too being inspired by the natural wonders I visited back east but I could'nt express it like Neil can. I feel so lucky to have so much awesome music back then, we were truly rich in music, I remember I was also obsessed with Joe Cocker record then, Majorie, Black Bird, Help from Friends ( it is few who can do Beatles song maybe better than them ??? & who else performed like Joe looking like he was having some kind of epiletic attack while performing... oh yea - no I did not go far in the spelling bee but was good at; hey who singing that song ?

That is Old Black, no mistaking it, plus he doesn't have another black LP, he has a gold one made to be just like Old Black as well as backup...Old Black was originally a Gold top too, but someone had sprayed it black by the time Neil got it in the late 60s

+Carl Clandestine Another "What would have happened if" rock stories...............LS and Ronnie would have done a bangup job. Neil had written and recorded the song in 1975 but it was not released until "Rust Never Sleeps" in 1979. I don't think Neil has ever explained how his friendship with Ronnie developed after the "Southern Man" and "Sweet Home Alabama" incident. I will never forget sitting in my college cafeteria eating breakfast and the news came over our college radio station about the plane crash........it broke my spirit for a time.
