Neil Diamond performs 'If I Don't See You Again' off his hit album "Home Before Dark'

The piano part here-as in Evermore on Twelve Songs-gives the song its epic emotional architecture. With Rubin’s inspired direction, Diamond found new depths in his last albums and sang poignant power ballads of loss and redemption through new love. Now that he has been forced to retire from the stage, we will miss him for as long as we live, but we will always have the music to make us soar and to help lift us out of the depths. God bless him!

In 1978, December 7th, after the show at the Joe Lewis Arena in Detroit, I was lucky enough to be in a group of about 15 people that got to meet nd chat with Neil backstage. I was 20 years old. As the all too brief meeting ended, Neil walked with us to the exit. He actually held my hand as we aproached the exit, and there he & I stood. He was interested in my home town and was asking me several questions about it. Then there we were. The rest of the group left the room without me. Then he said to me, "Stay at the Hospitality room if you want. They're having cake and champaign for Linda's birthday". As I still stand on thi s earth, underneath the same sun and moon as he does, this is quite exactly what he said to me next: " If I don't see you again.....Oh, I'm sure I'll see you again." Unable to even muster the word 'good', I simply smiled and said ,"Bye.". I turned away, and left that room. I quickly left the area, not staying for cake & champagne.

This is Neil. Magic. The best music ever heard. And this song touch your heart as no one ! 50 years hearing him, me, then my wife, later my children ( they use to call him "uncle neil" ) and now, my grandchildren. Thanks, for a life enjoying your music! I'm writing from Viña del Mar, Chile

This is the magic you get when you have an amazing producer (Rick Rubin) who lets the singer 'explore the space in the room'. Same for Johnny Cash's American Recordings. Rubin just let these legends do their thing in their own way. And the result was timeless music. Also, a shout out to the session musicians who gave understated and classy performances that helped make these songs so damn special!

You are Amazing Mr Neil 💎 Mum and my mum's best friend, would play Neil Diamond back in the 70s on her stereo, My big Sister, myself, our friend would be playing in her room with our dolls, the smell of roast lamb cooking, mum and her friend having a few beers chatting, playing Neil full blast, then the song "Shilo" "Red Red Wine" all the "Hot August Night Album songs" came on, I can't listen to those songs without crying everytime I hear them, Why because back in 74 my big sister by 2 years passed from a short battle of Leaukimia, one month short of her 12th birthday in my mum's arm's waiting for an Ambulance, no morphine no pain killers she never complained she was an Angel. I still listen to Neil Diamond to try and bring back HAPPY memories of my sister as I blocked everything out, she passed, I don't remember anything from the 70s early 80s apart from stopping mum from taking an O.D from sleeping pills, a force (my sister's Angel spirit pushed my hand under mum's mattress where I found the empty bottle, I called out to my father, That's all i remember. I understand her grief, I had to look after mum. P.T.S.D.. Mum and I went to the Neil Diamond concert in 1999 in Melbourne, Australia, our first EVER concert and last, as our tickets were behind him, sitting next to a drunk omg, then only seeing nothing but the back, Neil Turned around and did acknowledge us, that was great, a giant Aussie American Flag fell that was great.. the concert was spoiled when sitting next to an aggressive drunk stinking of Alcohol, singing, yelling out of tune omg, all mum and I heard was him. Lol. Anyway that's my story. Mr Neil Diamond I thank you for your Voice, and your music. From Australia with Love xx I will buy your Albums and Always love your music, know that you are loved by Australia and me.

I'm loving Neil's sound on this. The pared-down, sort of "raw" singing is just perfect, I think, for this composition. Really fits the mood of the song and I just love love love hearing Neil so pure and honest. He's just so incredibly special! 💖💎🏆🌟💖

I am a lifelong Neil Diamond fan, and I think his Home Before Dark release is possibly his best. So much depth in the lyrics and his voice. I felt the same way about Johnny Cash's American Recordings. It is like both legends saved some of their best stuff for the sunset. As you stated so well, simply beautiful! Peace.

i was maybe fifteen the first time i saw him - no band just Neil - hair still in a modified ducktail. Dick Clark's Where the Action Is played in St. Pete. I willed myself well from morning sickness (that lasted all day) to see him in Houston and then again and again and again back in Florida. Now i'm old and gray but his music still brings me to tears.

This is so beautiful! I wish there was something we could do about that guy that calls himself 'NeilDiamondChannel' and comes up first on all searches. He has millions of hits and what bothers me is the Hate Speech in his profile. There are some that think it is Neil. I hate seeing someone use Neil's name to propagate hate.
