I am pretty sure this episode came about due to the retrial of Armin Meiwes happening around the same time series 1 was airing. I mean imagine you're trying to think of new material for a 2nd series and suddenly in the news is the story of a German former computer repair technician who is coming up for a retrial for killing and eating a voluntary victim that answered a wanted ad.

The reason for that musical ending is the actor who played Johann, Phillip Rham, was a professional cellist before becoming an actor and he played it for the studio audience at the recording.

I'm still offended that they retried him, everything up to and including his death and subsequent consumption was consentual, at most he should have gotten 3 years for disrespecting human remains, which was sort his first sentence. But due to pressure, not sure from where, they retried him much harsher. Makes for a fun IT Crowd episode, but I don't think it's fair what they did to Armin.

Aside from the guy they based the episode on, there are other examples of ethically gray cannibalism. In the US there was a guy who had to have his foot amputated and got the doctors to give him the severed limb. He took it home, and cooked it up into tacos for him and his friends, all aware of the protein source. IIRC, nobody was charged because cannibalism itself wasn't illegal, it would be the associated murder, but in this case there wasn't one. Along those lines, there are also people who eat human placentas, believing it has to have some magical properties, or that because a lot of animal moms eat the placenta to hide the recent birth from predators, humans should do it, too. Gross and unnecessary, but legal.
@Renzsu2 жыл бұрын
The fun thing of this show is that they can basically do anything with it. There aren't really any storylines, so they just go crazy with it. Douglas (the new boss) imo is even better than the Denholm, he gets more extreme with every episode, you've got some great stuff coming up (season 3, episode 4.. though it's a bit controversial for some).

I dont think its that piracy is no longer an issue. For some is was lack of streaming services and availability of rental places in their location or just money. The lack of on demand as well. Piracy still offers a nice one stop shop for anything you could want to watch compared to now where you would need to be paying for like 20 different streaming services. A lot of people share netflix accounts which is essentially as bad as piracy since netflix doesnt technically approve of it and there have been talks about cracking down on password sharing for years. I think its similar with music. Most of the people who pirated content couldnt afford to buy it. So the film and music industry was viewing piracy as lost sales instead of sales that never would have happened in the first place. For me when I was in high school I was making a list of stuff to buy whenever I had money so I could support the creators. Like I had just gotten into music and fell in love with metallica... but then metallica spear headed the takedown of napster which then soured me on that whole concept of supporting those kinds of creators. But then you have stuff like firefly which i downloaded instead of watching on tv as i wasnt paying for cable..... i bought it on dvd when it came out, bought it on bluray when that came out and now also bought the digital version on amazon. I think the media corporations all trying to get a piece of the pie are pushing people back toward piracy. Like I have amazon prime and netflix.... amazon bought mgm, cool so i can watch all of stargate now right? Nope because they want to double dip and are starting MGM+ to be ale to get an extra fee out of people. I have seen a lot of youtubers who actually use 3rd party streaming websites which are running in some 3rd world country to avoid copyright issues and they usually have ads to make money off people using their site.. Then these same youtubers not only profit off this stolen content but they post full PIP reactions on their patreon. So using stolen content to make money on multiple fronts and supplying that stolen content to people in full, for a fee.... Its just a matter of time before the reaction bubble bursts but as of right now no corporation is going to be willing to pay to get behind a patreon paywall to make sure people arent breaking the law. Also with the example of the community D&D episode there are movies and other TV show episodes that have been pulled off streaming services due to some Karens complaining about stuff so there is content that just doesnt exist anymore outside of piracy which I personally feel is wrong. I dont like censorship of any kinda

the Game of Thrones finale thing would have been because of the Internet & time zone differences different country would have got it first & the internet would have spoiled it before it aired for others in the UK, some American TV shows don't air until a couple of months after the season finale or half a year later sometime after the mid-season finale but I think some shows as big as Game of Thrones it was the next day or the next week
