If you'll recall, Wood Style: Cutting Sprigs actually explodes inside the target once it pierces them. Obito used it on a few of the Mist Ninja in his flashback to Rin's death. So yeah, Neji was basically torn apart from the inside, turned into a pin cushion.

Yeah it's actually part of what makes Naruto and Naruto Shippuden so good. The villains and heros aren't perfect. The results of war are realistic. Although... maybe... more main characters should have died etc. But the fact that people could be gone in a blink of an eye. I have a good friend that I meant to go see for over 2 weeks that suddenly died. I knew he was sick... I knew he could go. But I got busy and then all the sudden it was his funeral. I had family members pass while I was overseas suddenly and funeral was over before I could get home. It happens that way and it's tragic. Thankfully we aren't just "CRUDE MATTER" we are luminous beings and so those loved ones that pass on are still in a strong way... with us. God Bless.

This is when Obito became one of my favorite characters when he let Naruto witness that his words actually carry some weight behind them. Saying that he will never allow any of his comrades to die in a war is nothing more than a childish ideal. Kurama and Itachi also let Naruto know that he cannot end the war by himself but he did not listen and Obito made him realize how foolish he had been in the scene after he killed Neji. Great stuff.

People say they did Neji dirty but i think his dead was perfect for the story. These deads that happen very fast while you're still trying to figure what is happening shows they real way someone can be gone in a blink. We as viewers been in denyal is part of it as well, Obito let Naruto know how the real world works. Is not always beautiful like when Nagato revived everyone.

Nah they in fact did him dirty. His death felt forced and too fast. He’s way more faster and skilled than Sakura yet she was fast enough to pull a huge chunk of earth to shield herself from the spikes. While Neji somehow finding it difficult to keep up with them??? What??? Despite using rotation which is much more impenetrable than Gaara’s sand. Hinata too just stood there blocking Naruto like a human shield like what in the world was the writer thinking??? What also angered me was they never gave Neji or anyone on team Guy any real moments to shine in Shippuden ffs. Nejis most badass moment was in Naruto.

Neji's death and awesome hinata's speech countering obito's words and the slap she gave naruto is 😭🔥💯 . ( the parallels with obito and hinata's hand is a fantastic detail 👌 ) This situation was to teach naruto the meaning of comrades . The trust they have in him . That he shouldn't give up his struggle for peace and betray their sacrifices . And that's when his comrades would truly die cause they're death would lose its meaning .. . Hinata practically , saved naruto from falling to a same path as obito 💯

Neji death needed some build-up. Like after the shinobi alliance jutsu. They seperate obito from madara and have to deal with other ninjas but on obitos side he has to deal with naruto, neji hinata , and her father and a few other allied shinobi. we get that 1v 6 or 7 but obito does something tricky to kill the allied shinobi and it just leaves hinata, neji, naruto and the dad. Hinata struggles to keep up with those 3 and trys to build up the courage to fight along side them. And make tge hyuga be known as the genius clan on figuring out obitos time on going through things from the power of the sharingan than after they've seen an opening thats when obito is in trouble and on the other side madara is surounded by shinobi and see's that obito is having some trouble to the brink of almost being taken done and madara just annihilates the shinobi around him and unleashes a fire jutsu to seperate obito from the hyuga and naruto they back off and obito heals slowly from the hashirama cells and madara tells him i cant have ypu die on me so soon. And obito gives out a speech to naruto about friendship getting irritated by what naruto had when they were fighting against him. And obito shows himand tells him if you consider these people to be your symbol of hope ill show you what happens when that hope you entrusted to these people dies. Than we get that spike scene from obito but sends a swarm of them, after naruto used rasen shuriken using sage mode and neji uses rotation instead of mimicking that piccolo scene when he saves gohan from nappa. But obito realizes with his sharigan theirs an opening a blind spot hinata and the dad help out neji using air palm to block all the spikes, and than obito send one of those spikes towards naruto neji stops his rotation to get to naruto but hes not fast enough uses air palm to push him farther keeps running till he gets to him but what neji sees is the pike coming to naruto but in reality theirs nothing there because somehow obito used izanagi on neji deciding his fate probably during his fight. Obito gets a new eye from zetsu when he grouped up to madara. So than neji starts his rotation when the puke hasnt been shot yet neji's uncle sees the pike being shot tries to get to him uses air palm but by that second when that air palm was about to hit obito uses kamui times his rotation to hit his blind spot and kills him. And we get hiashi beating himself up for not keeping neji safe of the promise he made to his brother and we get that obito speech of not letting your comrades die.

3:20 Tentails in this moment looks like that meme with the purposefully bad drawing of a human-shaped animal saying "I owe you my life". Also Nejis death being in the same episode as Shikakus and Inoichis always bothered me. It made their death somehow seem less important. Nejis death just came out of nowwhere and no matter how often I watch it I am always stucked with a feeling of a unfitting pace here. Maybe because Neji just suddenly appeared and wasn´t fighting next to Naruto for some episodes, which would have made it more impactful. Normally when a character is supposed to die you see more flashbacks and /or you will see at least one or two episodes with them beforehand, so you get more emotional attached to them. I get that he´s loved by many, I like him a lot too, but this scene just didn´t "work" for me personally. On the other hand: Death does happen suddenly in war, so maybe this "randoom" happening is actually perfect because it´s so realistic? I don´t know ... I only know that Gaaras and Jirayas death hit me more with the build-up to them.

The moment Hinata changed the whole game for shinobi world 2nd time and again at lowest of Naruto. Damn i noticed it first time, how they symbolized Obito hand as darkness after giving up and instantly changed the frame to Hinata's hand to show the light that always pulls Naruto out of darkness.
