I really like that Dr. Temnova is referring to both herself and Dmitry as a dog. Implying that although he is an object of experiment and should be seen as such, she still feels like she should mother him and show him how cruel his fate can be. The lyrics implying the message of "I've seen a lot of things, maybe you should trust my experience" also sound like something a parental figure would say. And that the song sounds like a lullaby. I really love that Temnova is so dedicated to science that she is willing to sacrifice what little motherhood she felt for Dmitry. Its a really beautiful melancholic message about how a mind run by absolute logistics works.

This is really an underrated comment. We don’t know a lot about her aside from her usual indifference around the other kids. Him being an exception. She’s a dog for science, he’s her dog for the experiments. She’s guess he’s going to get hurt and come back to what he knew before. Slave to their desires
@kagasound35443 жыл бұрын
Aight bet I think I've got this, TLDR I think Dr Temnova is both 'immortal' or at least ages slowly and is directly responsible for the zone. Also just for context the document says "Dr Temnova is about 50 years older than she looks" This coincides with the creation of the zone 50 years before the story, and with that being said: "Panic was never a factor, I looked into the maw of a burning reactor" -This refers to the event of what we can assume to be some Chernobyl like incident, where Dr Temnova is present, looking into the exploding reactor and feels no fear, becaaaaaause... "And so my soul could soar, with my heart on the alter of science like an obedient dog" ...she saw an opportunity to dedicate her life to science/the zone, essentially giving herself up on a sacrificial alter to science, this also marks the first time that 'dog' here represents a religious-like devotion to the zone. "Pity is never a factor, when mercy is the sign of a talentless actor, and as you grow its hold on your throat starts to falter" The line essentially demonstrates Temnova's devotion, she believes that pity is an impediment to results, and therefore those who show mercy are talentless, it gets easier to ignore a desire for mercy as you grow older...and she is oooooold. "And once you go beyond pure humanities' border, you will come running back like a dog [Chorus] to 'her' " As Ferry says in the description, the zone is "female" (at least in russian) so "her" here refers to the zone. Temnova is now beyond a "pure human" likely referring to the mutation/slow aging she has acquired from the zone's birth, once again dog is used to represent devotion, and implies that once you have ventured into the zone, you will always come back to it, at least from her perspective. "I know of pain and devotion"- She has given many years and sacrificed many others (and presumably made sacrifices of her own to the zone, once again think religious worship to science almost "A gear in the machine grew immune to corrosion" The machine here is Temnova, which carries its own little implication, where the gear immune to corrosion implies that she no longer 'corrodes' aka she does not age "Go on turn back the clock, I will set it all in motion all over, like an obedient dog"- Once again dog represents her devotion, the line implies that if you could go back to the moment of the zone's birth, she would be there and cause the zone to be created once again, because she is devoted to it, it is her purpose and has been for around 50 years. "So won't you tell me, what do you know of devotion?" This is her message to Dmitri, she is mocking his 'devotion' by comparing to her own, in all fairness Dmitri's devotion has so far been fairly weak. "Be grateful for the freedom of lacking emotion." - She sees her conditioning of Dmitri to set him against other mutants and make him cold a favour, as from her perspective it makes him more able to pursue and devote himself to science. "Accept your future path wasn't yours to be chosen"-She does in fact see him as a tool, a beloved tool but a tool regardless "And even if it takes you decades, I know that you will coming back like a dog [Chorus] to me" - She (probably correctly) assumes that Dmitri will return to her, and the zone, paralleling her own experience with being drawn back to the zone. A small note is that she feels comfortable waiting decades, as she will likely have not aged a day by the time he returns, though considering Occam's Razor, their reunion will likely be sooner than later.

I think there's more to comment on here, actually. There are dual meanings to a lot of this. "I know of pain and devotion" / "So won't you tell me, what do you know of devotion?" - This is all also a statement of her expecting him to change, to learn. That he is small, not yet tempered, that he hasn't remotely gotten there yet. But, perhaps he can. She is adjusting. Fixing. Belittling what is, for what could be. "A gear in the machine grew immune to corrosion" - This isn't just about her no longer aging. To her, she is the pure vessel of science, as she is now- Now immune to petty jockeying for power, to breaking and giving up. By what she did, she made herself the perfect gear in the machine, never needing to be replaced. It is also a word of encouragement, to her- This is an objective positive all should strive for, is implied. Perhaps he can too! "And once you go beyond pure humanities' border, you will come running back like a dog [Chorus] to 'her' " - This isn't, again, just referring to mutation; Like the above, it is a statement that to dedicate yourself to the grand pursuit of science, to stop caring about what a human cares for will show you that this is the Correct Path. It is more than literal- It is the metaphorical result of shaping herself to care more for the possibility and unreality presented by the exploration into the beyond, than the mundanity of life. "Be grateful for the freedom of lacking emotion." / "Accept your future path wasn't yours to be chosen" - These are the ways she expresses what she, personally, feels to be positive, that she has both experienced and shaped for him. She is urging him as a mentor that this is okay. This is right, because it is, from her experience, perfection. She has been here. You should listen to her. The moment the incident happened, what she felt when she discarded her own emotions- It was all worth it, she says through this. It's something to celebrate, not rethink. Dmitri is a work she is proud of- To have crafted and created, which is a parallel to her and the Zone. She has put so much of her into Her Work, for the dual meaning of the Zone, and of Temnova herself. Dmitri is her work. At the end of the song, she, herself, is phased out; Like a watching over of Dmitri. It is, despite her words, a sense of attachment to some form of 'Creation'. Someone, who, despite her department from pity, who she sees as an 'Apprentice' as well as a functional culmination of a portion of her work, and a mirror of what she, personally, feels. He is just on his stumbling steps. He will learn. She projects onto him, as the closest thing she's had to another entity who has been 'purely' forged, more than even the other scientists who do not operate on the same level as her, from the content of the rest of the story. People who have concerns about the world they live in, or who want a paycheck, or want authority- This does not matter to her. What matters to her is discovery. Exploration. At all costs. What could be discovered in the pure pursuit of science, and having a delight for the execution of the function of 'the machine' of progress. She is projecting herself onto him. She may not be feeling traditional empathy, but there is so much conveyed. She is talking down, not to just a lesser being- But a nascent one, who she sees in some way parallels her own experiences. It's why she, too, is the dog. I agree with everything above- She, herself, feels that exploring and expanding. This is just a child's fit. A disobedient dog learning to be trained. Both at the same time. She was there, once. She has such high hopes for him. Even if that is twisted, it is completely earnest, just like her devotion to seeing what unfolds from the human trials she enacts.

Actually I think there could be other meanings to some parts of the song. When she is talking about "A gear in the machine" i don't think the machine is Temnova I think it's refferring to the zone, this also works with the choice of word "grew immune" because she spent so much time inside the zone and devoted to it that she bacame impossible to corrode, age in this case. Also when she says "Go on turn back the clock, I will set it in motion all over" it could also mean, aside from what you said, that she is trying to recreate the event that caused the zone 50 years ago and maybe she needs little dog boy to do it?

"The Russian noun for zone is of feminine gender." "You should never ask a woman her age. For instance, Dr Temnova is only about 50 years older than she appears." considering the zone showed up 50 years ago... the lore implications of this are mildly terrifying! temnova and the zone are connected in some way, perhaps she was directly involved in the incident that caused the zone, and she's a mutant in her own way through slow aging. perhaps she's directly connected to the zone itself, like some sort of personification of it. lovely music as always, certain bits of it really reminds me of happy girl.
@aaaaaaaa-tz7tu3 жыл бұрын
holy fuck i forgot about the time the zone appeared, do you think she mightve founded(???) it/the research center whats it called again or have some sort of anomaly? because if so I am scrambling to make a theory at alarming speeds i hope she shows up again I'm definitely suspecting she's a sort of mutant now
@eli-kt5bh3 жыл бұрын
@aaaaaaaa i do believe she directly experienced the zone's creation considering the song lyric "i looked into the maw of a burning reactor." there's nothing about reactors in the current testing facility, because it's simply monitoring experiments with mutants. something like a nuclear reactor exploding, however, definitely lines up better with the idea of a catastrophic event and why the zone is considered inhospitable to life. whatever is causing her not to age is definitely not normal, so we can probably assume it's a mutation. she may have founded the research center, maybe under a different name considering her mid 30s appearence. that or maybe not at all, she doesn't seem to have absolute authority over the center, but she is noted to have gotten nothing but a slap on the wrist for dima and kt escaping. i think it's too vague at the moment to pull any conclusions. (sorry for the edit, i misunderstood your question at first)

I just love this funky little science lady so much Man this really does an amazing job of showing temnova’s view on her situation. First we have her entire devotion to her work at the facility, her heart being on the altar as if she sees herself as a sacrifice, but the experience of that risk and the metaphorical looking into the burning reactor (and the specific use of “maw”, making it feel as if it intends to devour her completely like a wild beast) still drawing her back in, causing her near unending devotion (like an obedient dog, haha) even with the pain it may have caused her before growing immune to the erosion. However, we also get to see a slightly darker side to her, as when time in this work went on, she's become less attached to people, going beyond humanity’s border and losing the emotional aspect of her life as she replaced it with logic and reason (and seeing that as a freedom) - no longer perceiving panic or pity something she has to factor into her actions and mercy no longer a thing she is willing to give unless it benefits the experiment (such as the case w DT001-319, who’s termination was a waste in her eyes) - seeing it as nothing more than a simple act she can use to make an experiment work better. With her calmness throughout the entire song it’s abundantly clear that she holds no uncertainties about the situation - the imagery of her holding her hand over DT001-319’s eyes showing how she’s manipulating him into doing what she’s wanted even if he does think he’s doing it out of his own will. I don’t know if shes going to be right or wrong yet but dear fuck do i wanna find out Also temnova immortality confirmed, she's immune to erosion >:)

Love the vibe of this song. While Nikita's goodbye song, was rough, very hard to understand and full of calm rage, Temnova's sounds weirdly full of hope as if it was her last words to Dima before getting caught for her actions. It's also a good way to show her way of thinking, because the song could be a taunt to Dima but also talk about her own obsession's towards the zone, as if she was married to it, drawn to "her". Overall a very good song. I like how Tsar, Arthur, Nikita and Temnova all got their own songs so we can have a clearer look at their characters from something apart of the bonuses. Plus they're all very interesting characters. (I wouldn't say cool, because Nikita's an a-hole.) So only Ivan and his girl are missing then. Also Dima is definitely getting killed/trade for KT. And I'm sad because Anya will be. Another interesting thing to observe in the overall story is KT and Dima's incompatibility with each other. I'll explain: The only time both characters were seen together ended in disaster, due to an argument, and different views on things. Ultimately KT was the one captured, and Dima was the one rewarded for his behavior. The thing is, I wonder if the story is setting up the plot point that "To get one's freedom the other will have to die/suffer." Because one getting rewarded means the other's ideology will be destroyed. And we all talk about this, like KT can be saved, but if she was set-up for termination before Dima saved her, maybe she's already dead. If that's the case I can't even image what Yura will do. And if Dima is sacrificed, I have a feeling that Anya will definitely turn like her brother, or even worse, maybe like Temnova in hope of bringing her love back. Edit: Something I realized after re-reading my comment: Yura, Dima and KT form a perfect triangle. Yura and KT are both getting beaten down by life time and time again, the series don't spare them at all. KT and Dima are both mutants that escaped and wish for happiness. Yura and Dima never give up despite having very little hope of things turning out right. It's really funny because I think in the end, Yura being unable to give up on something despite being the "Loser" is what will give him the edge over Dima, who also has a very strong will but mostly because he was never affected personnally by the losses, due to how detached from everything he is. While KT and Yura are the same person, but the first gave up, while the other continued on and on.

little thing bc everyone else is analyzing and I wanna join in, thinking she might straight up view herself as a tool for science and given the tone of the song is completely content with this, given describing herself as an obedient dog. she also seems to not understand why anyone else wouldn't share these same views given the tone of the song is so,, calm. like she's stating a well known fact, like the sky is blue. also the very clear implication that she's manipulating dmitri and she thinks that's completely fine because it's for science, the lyrics imply this was a gradual shift which makes me curious as to how it started in the first place. I'm guessing it started during the zone creation and happened over time? hmmm interesting interesting! also the same thing everyone else has said: the zone was created 50 years ago, she's "only 50 years older than she appears" according to the handy dandy google doc (god rip to anyone who finds this comment section before reading the document/watching the rest of the series), so many of the lyrics imply she's immune to aging,, she directly factored into the creation of the zone or witnesses it and is a mutant herself also smth I haven't seen anyone point out yet: if she's a mutant, she's a mutant that directly works against her fellow mutants,,, which is what she encourages dmitri to do and uses him to do,,, thinking.

Making your own choices is fun, even if you're still quite devoted to something like science. With just that in mind, you don't have your job security nor sympathy to make you do something you don't want to do, just the facts, like you know the wounded dog is gonna come back at some point. Maybe that's not what this is about, but I think Iroha-sung songs are about making your own choices, whether driven by science or fear or mercy. What the driving force is exactly just depends on the pretty lady the song is about. Speaking of THE MILL(F), I like that non-Olga parts are sung by Kyo, the words of Nikita as well as Sergei in his ZONE-SHENANIGANS element. And then we have Yura switching to Kyo as he grows more cynical again, but still retains the will to act. Before, I used to think Yura and Anya had more in common than they gave one-another credit for. Now, I hope the next song isn't a Kyo one for Anya's sake. Or maybe it should be, angry squirrels need angry vocals to convey that everything has gone nuts. Just some theory nonsense, I'm probably off but I enjoy taking up space in my containment cell with a dart board with pictures of the Super Dead Bros on it to figure out Kolya's favorite flavor of toothpaste. I enjoy the simpler nature of this song, it reminds me of what I think a slower-paced Rapid Transit would be like, and I'm a big fan of that one even if it's one of your oldest songs, I wanna be one with worms. It also reminds me a bit of THE MILL(Flready made this joke) but I might just be imagining things. I also enjoy dogs, so seeing local angry snake(?) likened to a dog is also fun.

Well, in the description of “LIKE A DOG” it says, “The Russian noun for zone is of feminine gender.” Also in Temnova’s official character guide it says, “She is 50 years older than she actually looks.” The Zone was created 50 years ago… Put these two flavour texts together and LIKE A DOG’s messaging, Temnova may be the one who created The Zone. Or atleast she is tied to The Zone’s existence, which would explain her lines about devotion and self-sacrifice. This also puts her authority in The Zone Facility into question, the reason it was created as she explains, “To build a better future.” Is Temnova running this facility because of altruism, greed or guilt? Probably all at once… Also, if Temnova created The Zone that would explain why she is in-charge of the facility. So we are to assume she is some sort of powerful entity? And yet in her interview she says that she got “Demoted.” So Temnova is not all-powerful afterall? Is she perhaps also a victim to the facility’s experimentation?

i cant help but feel despite everything, temnova herself is also being manipulated by something. maybe the government, the zone, or maybe just her own twisted ideals of progress. whatever it is, it commands her to continue, no matter what. it commands her to have no fear, and trust it, like an obedient dog.

guys, i think dmitri is going to be fine! (at least at the end of these series) "and even if it takes you decades, i know that you will come running back like a dog". if this was supposed to be temnova's last message to him, this would make no sense knowing he was going to be/was already killed.

making another comment because i thought of something. temnova refers both to herself and dmitry as dogs, the marked difference being temnova as an "obedient dog", dmitry as a "wounded dog". temnova may feel some sort of kinship with dima, with both of them having been given "useful" mutations by the zone. maybe she sees herself as obedient because she uses her "gift" from the zone to further research it ("worship" it), while she sees dima as "wounded" (or maybe damaged, just in general having something wrong with him) because he goes against the zone even when it has given him such a gift. there might even be some feelings of betrayal within her, since she's dedicated her whole life to the zone, and dima seems to just blow it off and want away from it. this is all assuming temnova has feelings though so. yknow. just some thoughts

I feel like the way Temnova hold's Dima's eyes closed means something. Remember, her own eyes are closed too. At the start she references herself as the dog ("With my heart on the altar of science, like an obedient dog") but later throughout the song she says Dima's the dog. So maybe she's teaching Dima this taught helplessness, hm? She's viewing him like herself. Making him follow on in her footsteps. damn hot science ladies are always harsh on themselves huh

Temnova's calm and sure tone just sends chills down my spine. And her confidence that Dmitry will come back just tops it all. We know she was fascinated by her dear expirement, but perhaps this fascination goes much deeper. It is implied that she has Dmitry wrapped around her finger, or rather easily manipulated him, enough to have him convinced that he had ran away with his free will. Her calculating mindset has her certain he'll be back, but perhaps for a bigger cause. Perhaps Temnova's relationship with the Zone is why she needs Dmitry? Maybe she has much bigger plans for him, and because she knows him like the back of her hand, she didn't mind letting him go. They may continue their plans anytime. This is just my insane ramblings however. I'm just so excited yet afraid. That's how much I love this series. Anyways here's a better theory: Ferry is Temnova. They have us running back to them like dogs

I haven't seen anyone post the lyrics so I wrote them down myself Here : LYRICS Panic was never a factor, I looked into the mow of a burning reactor And so my soul could soar With my heart on the altar Of science Like an obedient dog Pity is never a factor When mercy is a sign of a talentless actor And as you grow, its hold on your throat starts to falter And once you go beyond pure humanity's border You will come running back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog To Her. I know of pain and devotion, A gear in the machine grew immune to corrosion Go on, turn back the clock I will set it in motion all over Like an obedient dog. So won't you tell me What do you know of devotion? Be grateful for the freedom of lacking emotion Accept your future path wasn't yours to be chosen And even if it takes you decades, I know that You will come running Back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog Run back like a dog A wounded dog To Me.

Not something I've seen directly remarked upon, and perhaps less definitive than other associations, but it strikes me as really interesting that "When mercy is a sign of a talentless actor" also holds a double meaning, as Talent is also the connection and sense for the Zone possessed by stalkers. (It's also remarked that Olga may not have any due to being a woman, which seems to really be mostly sexism, but also makes Dr. Temnova a bit more remarkable for being so closely connected to Her.)

The feeling this song evokes, the pace, the melody, it feels like such an odd-yet-perfect departure from the songs of the serie. Similar to ''Message Lost'', it feels like what a bonus track should be. The soft vocals that seem so sure of themselves also just fit Temnova extremely well, since there's no doubt in her mind. An amazing job as always, Ferry ^^

I feel like the first part of the song goes into Dr. Temnova herself? For instance, in the doc it says she's 50 years older than she appears, and as others have pointed out, the Zone appeared around 50 years ago. And the lyric "I looked into the maw of a burning reactor" sort of implies that she was involved in it? At least in my opinion. And perhaps because of that, she devoted her life to finding out more about the anomalies within the Zone, like herself (Since it's also theorized she has some sort of mutation causing her not to age as fast, as sort of implied by "A gear in the machine grew immune to corrosion"), so she compares herself to a dog. Thus, later she compares Dima to herself, likely saying he'll come back both for KT and for more knowledge. That's just my take on it! I'll add more if I think of more, and great work, Ferry!

I've been trying to collect my thoughts for hours now. This song is just so haunting (in the best way possible!) and perfect for the very end of PAFL. It has such a bittersweet tone, and the lyrics make me think that Temnova is connecting to Dima on such a personal level, as if his she was his mother, and also another entity of the Zone. This song is easily one of the best, great work as always Ferry!!

I think the zone and dr. temnova have their time paused or altered in some way! I think time might be paused or at least anything in the zone was put on pause then it was created in the disaster. This would explain dr. temnovas lack of aging and if you look back in THE MILL there are floating things in the sky like a helicopter or the top of the meat grinder. If time around the zone, or the meat grinder which seems to be near the epicenter was paused on the objects like the helicopter, perhaps it would have been paused on those who survived near the epicenter, the reactor, like dr. temnova? Pretty sure she was there because of the second line of this song "i looked into the maw of a burning reactor" she was there, and her time and the surrounding area in the zone had its time paused or majorly slowed seeing as the things are still in the sky, locked in place. I think maybe it only effected certain things in that moment because time seems to flow normally for those entering the zone like in THE MILL, but the objects are still stuck frozen in place even if the world around is changing, the helicopter ive mentioned is covered in vines and stuff in THE MILL, so things around the stuck objects change, but the objects themselves are stuck in a certain position in time?

OK! Theory time! In my humble opinion this song is telling us the ultimate end of the PAFL according to the notes in the description But let's not be too hasty in our judgement and look into the lyrics "Panic was never the factor" "When mercy is a sign of a talentless actor" good introduction to Our Doc's way of thinking :D "I looked into the maw of the burning reactor" i don't wanna make assumptions but i think something will go BOOM in the near future... Or if it is sung from Zone's point of view then it may be telling us how it all started The next lyrics are particularly interesting to me... In this Temnova compares herself to the "obedient dog" talks about going "beyond humanities border" through abandoning pity and mercy, hmm... It is wild speculation but imma put it here anyway: Temnova will BECOME the Zone. (Or she will just die fulfilling the 'soaring soul' and 'heart in the altar' parts) Ah... I already feel my head growing a tinfoil hat... Kk back to lyrics! Then it goes back to the "wounded dog" thing, but now it is addressed presumably to Dmitry, saying he will run back to 'her' (To the Zone) From my reading experience of stalker books, mutants have the special affinity to the Zone... It is kinda wrapped up in the mystery, which makes it all the more alluring to people The next parts are a BANGER!!! And an insight at how Temnova sees herself in relation to Dmitry: "I know of pain and devotion", "a gear in the machine immune to corrosion", "Turn back the clock/I'll set it back into motion", "what do you know of devotion?" That's a doozy to take all at once, but i think that Our Doc truly thinks that they are similar.(does she have a superior complex too?) She is confident that Dmitry is destined to walk into the Zone and she will make sure he will, no matter how long it takes: "even if it takes you decades… you will run like dog... TO ME" The ending is a plus one lyrical proof to my theory above~ (•w•)~ (It also could mean joining her into the afterlife... But my theory is not THAT sad :D)
