Part of a great DP combination with Luis Aparicio..

I was born (1952) and raised in Chicago. Nellie Fox and his teammate, Luis Aparicio were one of the GREATEST defensive AND offensive combos in MLB history!!🥰🥰 R.I.P. Nelli🥰e and Looie🥰!!!
@priscillabouffant95158 ай бұрын
Aparicio was a much less than league average hitter with a lifetime 82 OPS+, 100 being league average. He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. He was far from any sort of offensive force. Fox, was slightly better at a 94 OPS+ lifetime. Neither of these guys were real offensive threats and far from "Great" hitters. Sorry to mess up your addled memory with sometime as factual as real stats. I know. I know. You use the smell test.

Fox's best year was 1957, not 1959. He hit .317 and had 200+ hits. and scored 100+ runs. His 1959 season was good but they could have just as easily given the award to his teammate, ,Luis Aparicio. If the Indians had won the pennant after leading the league for most of the season, Rocky Colavito would have won the award comfortably .
@kevinmadden1645 Жыл бұрын
Incidentally, "Jim" Rivera's first name was Manuel, not James. This is curious because in the 1950's, seemingly all White Sox outfielders had "Jim" for a first name (Landis, Mcanany, Delsing among others )

@kevinmadden1645 Жыл бұрын
🎉The key to the Series was Sherm Lollar being thrown out at home with no outs. The momentum swung to the Dodgers as they won game 2, 4-3 after losing game 11-0 . Another factor was the Sox losing game 3, 3-1 despite 13 hits- all singles!

@@deepcosmiclove You make an interesting point. The 1959 Dodgers were a blend of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. As it turned out, Hodges and Snider had one more productive year in them. Drysdale was their best pitcher(17 wins) . Koufax was not yet Koufax (8-3) although he showed hints of what was to come . On the other hand, Wally Moon and Charlie Neal had career years with Moon finishing in the top five in the MVP balloting . Maury Wills played well after being called up from Spokane after spending eight years in the minors. Chuck Essigian and Rip Repulski played well in reserve roles. Essigian became the first player to pinch hit two homers in a World Series.
