THIS BAND IS QUITE WONDERFUL. IN EVERY WAY. The vocals have superb lyrics, the dancers terrific rhythmmic ideas. In the kingdom of me, these people are unbeaatably famous stars..and then the GREAT Nellie Lutcher breathtakingly good.Thanks, mr Eichler. You've struck pure gold. Your choices bring me much joy.

When I was growing up in New Orleans, Nellie Lutcher would come to house to visit my mother whenever she was in town. She would play the piano and sing for us just as if we were watching a live show in a night club. She and my mother grew up together in Lake Charles, Louisiana. They both could sing and play the piano. When my mom died in 2006, Kellie was still alive.

This is just wonderful. I was 6 years old when this short appeared and remember Nellie Lutcher clearly; she was a big artist on Capitol Records and a major influence on other lady singers including Peggy Lee. Ina Ray and her band were big stars and did tremendous business in engagements across the nation. Ina Ray as I remember grew up in Chicago and attended Hyde Park High School, a five minute walk from the University of Chicago, where I taught 51 years. I think her younger sister was June Hutton who sang with the Pied Pipers. Television was just about to come in by 1947 and overnight it changed life totally in the nation and nearly wiped out the movie industry. The world was totally different. I was at age 6 already interested in becoming a writer and in time i began collecting television guide magazines from across the nation; that was before T.V. Guide was founded, and I still have all those magazines! Ina Raye and her aggregation were typical of the leading night club acts in the country, talented, very prepared, classy and fun people. Later I become one of them.

At first I thought it was the dancers but when the second set came out for their number I figured it out - it's the floor. It is too slick. Still, I'm loving this short film.

I did a lot of swing dancing back in the day. Us East coasters appreciated a good smooth floor but the lindy hoppers and balboa dancers used to throw a powder on the floor cuz they needed more slip. We had to be aware not to get near that section or we would end up hitting the floor.

@isaiahvillarreal4512 Fellow swing dancer. I'm Toronto and we didn't allow powder at our dances for that very reason. Good to meet you. Love.

This looks more like a 1950's film.

This indeed from the 50's. Somebody has mis-labeled it. The hairstyles and fashions are definitely not from 1947, or even the late 40's.

@@sandaglad This is actually a concert from 1947 entitled girl time. You can find it available for download online! cheers

It seems to be constantly mislabeled, but "The Encyclopedia of American Short Films" lists "Girl Time", starring Ina Ray Hutton, dir/pro by Will Cowan as released in May 1955.

Wouldn’t this of been considered very risqué back then?
@stephenbarnes1944 Жыл бұрын
Although there appears to be dispute about the timing of this recording, it most certainly would have been considered risque for the time of its appearance, no doubt a part of its appeal.

Interesting that the female flamenco dancers are wearing male-style costumes instead of the lovely ruffled flamenco dresses.
