Other than that, this era was pretty much a mess..... Waiting for Tonight and Spirit Indestructible were good but then most of the songs on this album were definitely not for everyone. It takes a particular listener to enjoy this album. Hardcore fans will listen of course cause It's Nelly but I can see why the album failed.

It's really sad that big industries like "The Huffington Post" etc are questioning and bashing Nelly on low album sales for Spirit Indestructible...and i think her response to all of the critics couldn't have been said better. To the idiots who are questioning her, she is trying out new things world wide, every single album since 2000 has been different then the last. Whoa Nelly , folklore, loose, etc etc every one of them are almost COMPLETELY different you wouldn't even know who the artist is except for her distinct one of a kind voice. She's doing what she enjoys unlike most of the 16 year old talentless artists now a days that just try to appeal to mainstream radio listeners and billboards to top it statistically but don't really enjoy their work due to record labels etc. Nelly Kim is doing what she enjoys and what feels right. Hell, she could've just stuck with Timbaland and came out with gigantic hit after gigantic hit , which i agree was probably her best work and where her talent and strengths stand out the best, but i still like her current 2010-2014 2nd generation stuff. Of course, me one of them, will miss her American music days with Timbaland and most of the songs off her album "Loose" (Promiscuous, Say it right, Do it, etc) , but she's a different person, doesn't want to be in that life forever, she doesn't want to be a club music or party music animal her whole life, she's older now. Let her go please, lol...
@dpdelcp10 жыл бұрын
Well said Braden! Nelly's talent knows no boundaries! She's an artist who composes, sings, (no auto-tune required) and plays guitar. I hope one day Nelly will reunite with Timberland. He has the ability to make her talent shine!

This song should've been the lead single, it's so sneaky and flirtatious and screams "I'm baaaack!!!". While Big Hoops is good and "hits" harder, it just tumbled out of nowhere and is so random as a lead. This one is a grower! I like to think the singles for the album went like this: 1. Parking Lot (lead single, released February 2012) 2. Spirit Indestructible (2nd single, released in May 2012) ALBUM RELEASE (June 2012) 3. Waiting For The Night (September 2012, when days are getting shorter and nights are getting longer...) 4. Something (with alot of cool remixes, this could've been a hit, released January 2013)

@CharlotteNCJack9 жыл бұрын
+A Viewer right.... Even though 5 out of the 10 singles in the top 10 are from Canadian artists.... No it didn't flop because she's Canadian. That never stopped her in the past when she had those number ones. It flopped because it's been 6 years since she was relevant and because her official English language comeback single, "Big Hoops" kinda sucked and radio barely played it. So as a result, radio was reluctant to play any more songs from Spirit Indestructible and her label was reluctant to promote her
@sbe799 жыл бұрын
+CharlotteNCJack You are precisely right. There was waaaay too much time between albums. Given that her previous album, "Loose" was a mammoth success, that album was also a comeback. Her album prior to that one, "Folklore" was an international failure. She needed to strike while the iron was hot for her (even "Loose" had a spotty rep when it came to hit singles -- 2 huge songs and 3 additional singles released with very little notice) and instead she let her American-language brand lie dormant for six years. That's longer than an eternity in pop culture, especially when it's not quite positive if your last success was a fluke. I love this song. It reminds me of an updated, more laid-back "Hollaback Girl".
@sumbuddy58198 жыл бұрын
+sbe79 I think it's also the competition. Loose came out in 2006. After that, Beyonce and Rihanna became bigger, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga both debuted in 2008, then Taylor Swift.... and of course Britney and Pink were still making hit records.... many female stars put their mark in the industry and I guess the industry forgot about her. And on another note she changes her music direction a lot of times, from adult contemporary to folk to R&B hip hop to Latin to Pop again... I personally have no problem with this but I guess the industry did not know where to place her anymore. But well..... it is what it is. I don't think it's her main goal to make hit records and albums, and during the Loose era I always had the feeling she just wanted to proof everybody that if she wants to be commercial and make hit records she can do it. I'm just glad that even though the spirit indestructible wasn't that successful, it didn't stop her to put singles out with nice video's, still continued promoting and still continued touring. And I'm hearing new music may be coming so let's see what'll be next. We haven't seen the last of her :) PS: Folklore was not a failure in Europe. Powerless, Try and Forca were big hits.

While u idiots are comparing 2 completely different artists, of completely different eras! Lemme remind u, that Nelly was a artist of the 90s, and Carley is of 2000s! While Carley is still young and has a very long way to go, Nelly Furtado is already a established singer/producer/director/actress over course of decades now, and is easly one of the best female artists of the 90s! Loose was infact a blueprint of todays pop albums. Yes awards don't matter here....because nelly has been around for longer! Nelly is very diverse vocally and in music styling, and Carley is mostly pop! It is unfair by every means to compare both these artists, coz one is already a legend by her own means and one will be in the later future by her own means! More Power to both these Great artists. Period!

John Lamonde While you're busy hating intensely, Nelly Furtado is enjoying her success, her number one singles, and working on her new albums. I never understood poisonous Internet gangsters who wish to do harm to others, as if their opinion altered the world or made any difference. Haters stay at home hiding behind computers. You should learn to appreciate differences and learn to keep quiet if you don't like something. Nelly Furtado is not only a great Grammy Award winning singer, but she's an inspiration to millions. So understand, that no matter how hard you hate, that won't stop Nelly Furtado. Be blessed buddy!

I miss the time when the music scene was dominated by Nelly, Fergie among others. Nowadays we have basic-assed Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. I like them too but still ....
