@sevntysixr6 ай бұрын
And the only artist that made his singing worse with auto tune was T-Pain - let that sink in
@NextenBlade6 ай бұрын
Autotune does not make singers sound good - it is a vocal effect, which is exactly how artists like T-Pain used it (he can absolutely sing, check out his recent concert Live from The Sun Rose). All artists (especially major pop artists) have used what is called pitch-correction software for ages - that is a subtle technology that fixes the "imperfections" in a singer's voice (ex. if they're "almost" singing a certain note then it'll correct the pitch to have them sing exactly the right note). Even here though...it doesn't mean that someone who doesn't know how to sing will suddenly sound amazing, it's more like spellcheck when you're writing, you still have to know how to write, it just cleans up the typos. All of this to say - I hate how much there is a myth around that T-Pain used autotune because he didn't know how to sing, which is totally untrue and misunderstands what autotune is and why he used it.
@TheLizardWizard176 ай бұрын
lets be honest, most people don't really know what auto-tune is... its alot more than just the typical T-Pain style vocals... They all use some pitch corrections in studio recordings, and she absolutely made use of it too.

Fun fact: Neko Case was in a recording studio and the engineer asked if she wanted AutoTune. She said no. The engineer said “everyone who’s recorded here has used AutoTune except you and Nelly Furtado.” Game recognize game.
@relativelybasic6 ай бұрын
lol i don't get why that's a flex. autotune doesn't mean you can't sing. it's like saying you don't use reverb or EQ. sure it can sound decent, but it's just an effect like any other plugin.
@BlameNixon6 ай бұрын
@@relativelybasic I would think it's because Autotune is a digital "effect" introduced in the 2000's, while Reverb and Equalization are not "plugins" at all, but standards of feeling out the sound and venue acoustics.
@anacarolinaperaltaaristiza41146 ай бұрын
I don't think so, you can look at Karol G' s Tiny desk and then you will realize that she is completely singing without that sht, also Mon Laferte and lots of artists here. Because that is exactly what Tiny desk is about 🤷🏽♀️

Made a comment above, but was watching a KZbin video about Autotune, and the producer they interviewed was asked if any artist of that era (2000s) didn't use Autotune, he said Nelly Furtado.

I seen her in concert at a Christmas show. I was with my girlfriend in the front row against the gate. Nelly asked if anyone was celebrating a birthday and I raised my hand. She brought me up on concert, someone brought out a stool for me to sit on, and she sang a song to me. It was pretty incredible.

a 90/00's kid from toronto, nelly's voice was one of the pillars of my youth- i'd give anything to relive that time. will never forget one time in the early-00's, probably '02/'03, around age 12/13, playing glow-in-the-dark mini golf (on orfus road, iykyk), and turn off the light coming on- just that vibe/feeling of hearing that song in that environment next to one of my first major crushes at summer camp. and not to mention, like so many other boys my age, i also had an immense crush on nelly for a long time- those eyes, that face, paired with that immense talent. i love her music so much, and am all here for this incredible resurgence of hers.
