I'm a little confused. Between 3:00-4:30 he first talks about a "secret paf guitar" which sounds like an SG, then suddenly about his antiquity Jazzmaster pickups that look like single coils (they are single coils, aren't they?!).

Yes, they are.

Does Nels use antiquity 1 or 2s in his jazzmaster?
@breakalime4 жыл бұрын
I would guess Is since they are modelled on the earlier Jazzmaster pick-ups that would have come stock on Nels’ ‘59. Also, the Is are notably darker than IIs and Nels is known to dislike treble.

Definitely 1s. I have them and they're great but quite a bit darker and clearer than the 2s or a stock modern Fender pickup. Took a minute to get used to them but I wouldn't go back. Classic sound

He brought up an excellent point that most guitarists dont pay attention to tone, early on, because ur too concerned about where ur fingers are going and what it is that ur playing. Playing electric guitar is much, much more than walking, talking, and chew gum at the same time. Juggling act, really. 12's for the high E? wtf :)

For someone so concerned with sound you think Seymour would maybe mic the people talking? Some great personalities that sound awful.
