These guys were the brunt of a lot of jokes in their career, but if we're being honest here, this is a well-written, well performed, well produced pop gem. They we're misinterpreted as a hair band. @@angelbrother1238 A lot of people missed it because they were too busy putting them down over their look. While some took the attitude that they were Rick Nelson's kids so things just got handed to them. The simple facts are, these are two very talented guys who wrote cool pop songs sang great harmonies, and came from a great musical pedigree. Their grandfather Ozzie Nelson had a number one hit in the 30's, their Father Rick also had a number one hit, followed by Matthew and Gunner having a number one. How people can put that down leaves me scratching my head. How many families have three generations of number one recording artists? Enjoy their tunes my friend, better late than never.

"Melodic" is what's missing from most music (and missing from hip hop and jazz). Quality melody structure was the constant that tied in everything from opera, swing, pop, Motown, and hard rock. Missing and no where to be found except in oldies. Nice job Nelson.

@@MaxGiganteum True, but while it's easy to recognize melody, describing it in words is something else entirely. For instance, on-line definitions say a string of notes that is "musically satisfying". That doesn't quite explain it. I'm also convinced that people who are tone deaf can't distinguish a melody.

I remember when we moved to Murfreesboro, TN in 1990. I started my Junior year in high school and met Sean, who had (still has it) a 1969 GTO. We became friends and hung out. He'd always listen to the latest rock songs in that GTO when we would cruise around town. This is one of the songs that he really liked. I remember him rewinding it to play again multiple times. Several years later, I brought it up that he had this album on cassette and that he loved this song. He flatly denied it. A year or two later, we were rummaging through his old cassettes and I found Nelson. I picked it up and hid it. I again, brought up the fact that he loved Nelson and played the cassette all the time. He denied it again saying he never wanted that album and didn't buy it. He didn't know what to say when I revealed the cassette to him.
