I bought this musical on record. I wore the record out through playing it so much. Can you imagine any modern man wooing a girl by singing "blue heaven" to her? And yet what modern woman doesn't secretly wish to be really wooed. And not just taken for granted.

I love him so much. My mom had some of his 78's when I was a kid. I always listened to them. My favorite singer for 60+ years.

And such complex harmonies. Eastern/Western Love is one of the most complex pieces I know. Full rich orchestration. Great singers. The plot was light and almost trivial but the music. Romberg at his finest.

A wonderful recording- I have always loved hearing Nelson very much. He was much before my time and I am not young - but I think his music is timeless. I hope young people can appreciate his talent!

Wonderful listening to this medley again. Morrow left us much too soon. Her voice "spun gold". Eddy great, as usual. Always come back to her "And this is my Beloved" from Kismet.

I was an enthusiastic stagehand during the 1967 West End season at the Cambridge Theatre in London where John Hanson starred with Patricia Michael while fully supported by a large and brilliant cast and big orchestral sound. A thoroughly fortunate experience for me which since then has remained indelibly imprinted on my memory. Love and respect to every one of the gifted artists who were a part of that highly successful production.

well done Geoff. I've an idea the Queen Mother saw it six times. She saw it the night before her marriage also, when I imagine Harry Welchman sang the Red Shadow. But John Hanson - an amazing presence!

Doretta Morrow was one in a long list of singers that Nelson Eddy made albums with. 'The Desert Song' album was recorded in May 1952. For the full story on Doretta check out Wikipedia which gives a wealth of detailed information. BAZ

Nicely presented , thank you.This recording is pleasant but for a really stirring version of “The Desert Song” look out for the EMI CD in the classics for pleasure series.Edmund Hockridge and June Bronhill with Michael Collins’ orch.are really spectacular.

I first heard Doretta Morrow on an original Broadway cast album of Kismet, 1953, where she played the character of Marsinah. My parents used to go to all the Broadway hits in the 50's and early 60's, and then buy the albums. Check out the glorious "And This Is My Beloved" here on youtube.!

Imagine my surprise as an 11 year old boy soprano when I sang this with Doretta Morrow at a friend's home. She had just done Because You're Mine with Lanza!

Fabulous as usual, Baz and Di! I had not heard of Doretta Morrow, as far as I can recall, but of all the sopranos I've heard singing with Nelson, she's the one who sounds to me most like Jeanette. What's her story? Mike Norton

lovely selection but the 1929 John Boles film is too old, in horrible faded blue compared to the lovely restored colour 1930 King of Jazz film. Nelson Eddy had a solid steady if unspectacular voice compared to say Mario Lanza or Laurence Tibbett.
@eileenelliott62924 жыл бұрын
Nigel Barrett I suppose it depends on your reaction to the voice. All I can say is that Nelson’s voice sends shivers up my spine, whereas Mario Lanza’s voice irritates me intensely. He could never hit a note straight, he slurred up to each top note. Tibbet just leaves me cold!
@garyroberts38593 жыл бұрын
@@eileenelliott6292 interesting…you and I seem to be the only ones that dislike Lanza.. oh my dear mum who was a singer thought he forced his voice.
@amantedellopera1681 Жыл бұрын
U can’t compare eddy with Lanza or Tibet,Lanza was a tenor,and Tibet was a dramatic baritone,eddy was a lyric baritone,and a very fine one too,Lanza would never have made it as an opera singer so went to movies,and unfortunately for eddy who did sing in opera for a short time,he was surrounded by the brilliant mostly Italian baritones of the day,so he too turned to movies
