I say this without hesitation that this video is truly one of the best kept secrets of KZbin. Every element of this video is near perfect, from the absolutely mesmerising cinematography, to the awe inspiring and heart wrenching voice acting, to the superb and incredibly incredibly clever writing to the state of the art, to the impeccable, thrill-a-minute choregraphed action, all to an electric mix of north Korean techno-pop. Throughout the video the overall tone also remains consistently and supremely self-aware, making subtle references to a range of wider political and social themes such as late stage capitalism, free will, determinism, fate, Kim Karsdaishian and political authoritarianism. It draws upon well established writing and filming techniques from the likes of Michael Bay, Quentin Tarantino and Jason Friedberg, and refines them further still to an extent which no one thought was possible. The lead character, and his underlying conflicts and inherently unstable personality is done brilliantly and brings several bold and original ideas to the phycological western thriller biopic genre. Drawing upon a creative mix tropes of Optimus Prime and Marry Poppins to Sloth from the Goonies, he consistently exudes fascination and intrigue in all his mannerisms. The sharp dialogue in this movie also bolsters things further - as it is both surreal and unconventional in its lack of following a usual and particularly fleshed out script. Pulp Fiction has gained a reputation over time of being considered the true embodiment of a 'postmodernist movie', but after 25 years, we've finally arrived, and I'd say actually it is this video which should be considered the true postmodernist video. An underrated aspect which I feel gets completely overlooked is the production design. Similar to how Stanely Kubrick went for a confusing, almost dream like approach in A Space Odessy, the very minimalist, colourless set design really brings an extra layer of engagement to the movie. There are no props, but this didn't bother me at all. In conclusion: I'd highly recommend this video. It is a true modern classic, which will only get better with every watch. I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this video. Final score: 18/10
