Mandela's 90th birthday has reminded me of one of my favourite songs of all times. It's as good today as it was over 20 years ago!! The Specials were fantastic anyway but this song topped all!!

The song brought the plight of Mandela to so many people who had not heard of him before. The Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in 1988 was seen by over one billion people and this song was the finale. 25 years after it was written it still sounds great. Huge respect to Englishman Jerry Dammers who wrote it.

I remember skanking to this song in '84 at some community centre in the west island of Montreal. And beleive me, I think there were about 17 fans of this kind of music in that area and they were all at this particular dance. What memories!

I never forget this song. Every time I hear it takes me back 23 years. Used to work in a Wimpey hamburger bar during my student days and this song was played everyday through pipe music. This week we are celebrating the 90th birthday of the great man in style in London. Happy Birthday Mr. Mandela !!!
